Loose Skin
Hello Everyone!
First and foremost I would to say I am glad I made the decision to have my RNY. It has changed my life so much. In a world where people are now excepting larger sizes, I LOVE being my new weight! It has been a year and eight months since my surgery. I was 298, lost weight on my own and got down to 273. My target goal was 175. I am 154.
Now I have a bit of a problem. Because of my size, I was always self conscience about my weight. Now I am self conscience about the loose skin.
And this is summer. Swimsuit season. Areas that can't be concealed by long sleeves will have to be shown. I do not want my body to go through another surgery. At least, not at the moment. And I have finally, FINALLY, started dating.
I am so scared of putting on any clothes that would show off anything pertaining to my skin issues. How do you guys cope with this?
I don't think about this as much, being a guy. I wish I could help. But I wanted to congratulate you on doing such a fantastic job. Nice work!
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
Just two choices! Surgery or put up with it! My loose skin is horrendous! I much prefer to hide it but if it gets really hot, I just think "to hell with it" and show it. But to look smart, it has to be long sleeves etc
May be easier for me as at age 63 there is less pressure to look glamorous! Could surgery be in your future?
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do except keep it hidden or camouflage it if you don't have surgery to remove it. Shape wear can help hide whatever you can keep covered, but I am sure it is hot in the summer.
I had my arms and my tummy done, so going sleeveless isn't an issue for me (for the first time in my adult life!), but I still have large, pendulous breasts that require a heavy duty support bra, so every swimsuit I have tried just doesn't have anywhere near the support I need. I just have to accept it or wear a very "granny" style swimsuit. I live with the sagging.
My thighs are hideous (between a lot of excess skin and a little bit of excess fat) so I wear only below-the-knee skirts and dresses, and I only wear "walking" shorts (which come down to the knee or just below it). That means that there are absolutely NO dresses in the stores right now that I can buy (unless I buy a maxi dress which is NOT flattering on someone short with big boobs). If I wear a swimsuit, I always wear swim shorts over it.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Laura, I bought a Maidenform Moderate Support Tankini top the other day and wore it today and it is amazing. It has underwires and really is supportive, although I don't have large breasts but they are droopy. They sell them at JcPenney.
Thank you all for posting back. I don't hate my loose skin. When I look in the mirror it reminds me that I have all ready passed a road in my life that I don't want to backtrack on. I am toning as much as I can. I do have to get my chest done. No amount of toning is going to fix that problem. I will consider surgery only as a last resort. I had to live with the weight and I can live and love to learn myself, even with the skin problem. Again, I thank you all for your wisdom.
