I know iron is very important after my gastric sleeve surgery, but I refuse to take it because it's nary impossible for me to have a bowel movement. Even if I take stool softeners, fiber, prunes , you name it, I've tried it. I do however eat a lot of iron rich foods. Anyone else have the same problem?

What sort of iron are you taking?  Carbonyl iron is supposed to reduce the constiptation side effects that are common with other types.

Carbonyl iron is way, way less likely to cause constipation, because it's all elemental iron.  With something like ferrous sulfate, which is only 20% elemental iron, the iron salts (which is what the other 80% is) is what causes the constipation.

I take the slow release iron and have no constipation issues.
