What was that ONE big reason?

My question for all you WLSers out there is:

What was that ONE huge reason that you wanted your surgery?  What reason trumped the rest.

Mine? I want to have a healthy, happy pregnancy and baby.

The final straw, for me, was a weekend at my parents' house.  Seeing myself naked in the full length mirror in my bedroom/guest room made me decide that it was time.  Being uncomfortable in their kitchen table chairs (which have constricting arms) just clenched it.

I'm 11 weeks post op today and when I was at my parents' last week, the chairs were quite comfortable!

I almost died having my last child from obesity related issues. I had edema and after having my daughter the fluids in my body backed up to my lungs and it was lights out game over for me. I would already be dead were it not for modern medicine and the machines that kept me alive while my body healed. 5 months after that experience I was in talking to my doctor about WLS. Two years later I finally got it. No regrets.

I wanted my life back, or really for it to begin again, felt like I was getting older b4 my time, tired of my body breaking down & having injuries that never heal right & get worse because of the weight & really tired of having diabetes. I & my partner got in a manlift & it wouldn't go up with the 2 of us & knew it was because of me. Tired of losing & gaining back more, but just tired of being tired & someday I'd like for someone to pick me up, sweep me off my feet. It be nice if he could do that literally too! LOL

I say this a lot to my husband as well. I told him I want him to be able to pick me up and carry me or give me a piggy back.  Have you gotten your surgery yet?

I wasn't ready to die.

I was 45, and was told I wouldn't see 50 unless I lost a LOT of weight, and soon. So I gritted my teeth and called a surgeon, even though the thought of the RNY---the only form of WLS I knew anything about at the time---scared the crap outta me.
