Blood test results

I just got my first set of lab results and I figured I'd post them here in case any of you gurus have feedback for me about things I should watch!  My copper is high, so I'm switching to a copper-free multivitamin and retesting in 3 months.  I'll retest my Vitamin A then as well, because the new multivitamin is lower in that as poet_kelly pointed out.  I'm happiest about my A1c, which had been 5.7 pre-op and my vitamin D which was a miserable 16.6 pre-op.  I feel like I'm doing something right with those, at least!

I'm not expert but 2 things do stick out.  Your B12 needs to be much higher.  Mine is over 1500 and your Ferritin is low.  I don't know what your lab references but at my lab the values should be 50-200 ng/mL.

Depending on your labs value your Cooper may be too high.  My labs values are 80-155 ug/dL but I know labs may have different values.

Also, your protein looks to be on the lower side, my labs values are 6.4-8.2 g/dL.  Your albumin looks ok.

Your liver enzymes look pretty low, too, at least according to my labs values but nothing terrible.

As I said, I have no training, I'm just going by what I've learned over the years while checking my labs.  If you want expert opinion I would check with Michelle (Vitalady)  She is a long time veteran of a ERNY and has a lot of knowledge about what we need to stay healthy.

Thank you very much.  I'm currently taking b-12 every other day, so I can change that to daily.  Can I increase ferritin just by increasing my iron supplement?  (I thought it looked on the low side of things since the range I have is 15-150.)

Is there anything I can do about my liver enzymes?

Thank you again!

Low liver enzymes is good.

You need more B12 and iron.

I don't see PTH tested.  Just calcium number means nothing.

Aaah.  Thanks for the clarification about the liver enzymes.

My "PTH, Intact" is 27 with a reference of 15-65.

You can try increasing your iron.  Make sure you take it with vitamin C and at least 2hours from when you take your calcium.  I use carbonyl iron. I seem to tolerate it best but it looks like I may be headed for another iron infusion since my numbers keep going down.

You are no where needing an infusion but keep your eye on you level and ask you doctor what kind of iron they recommend.

I'd ask my doctor about the liver enzymes. I'm sure they are fine.

Thanks!  I use carbonyl iron too right now and do take it last thing at night with vitamin C.  But it should be easy enough to increase it, I'm only taking 18mg/day right now.

Your B12 is borderline low.  Below 550, people often start having symptoms like fatigue and depression.  So I'd increase that.

Your D is definitely improving.  I would want it higher though - research shows it should be at least 80, otherwise we're at increased risk for stuff like heart disease and osteoporosis.

Thank you!  I currently take B-12 every other day, should I switch to daily in your opinion?

I'm definitely working on the vitamin D, but I'm so happy that it's so much better than before!  This is the first time in my life that it hasn't been deficient.  Woo!

Yeah, I'd switch to daily, or maybe take it two days, then skip a day, then take it two days.  Or just buy a bigger dose next time you buy some.  It's hard to have B12 that is too high so there's not a lot of risk of taking too much.  Of course there's no point taking more than you need, you just end up spending more money on it, but it's like some vitamins or minerals where you can cause yourself problems if you take too much.
