Hello Everyone!

This is my 1st post here, I've been kinda hesitant about joining,  Have no real reason why though.  I've been lurking though.  I don't personally know anyone who has had this surgery (RNY) so I depend on my Family for support. Ok at the time I thought it was a good idea.  I still do, But I think additional support would be a good thing as well!

I am 3 months post op.  I'm having minor issues, and at times it's frustrating. Then today I had a really big AHA moment aka "light bulb" went off and for the first time I'm at ease.  I had this surgery to SAVE my life.  I was an out of control diabetic, and I also had a host of other medical probs. Being a diabetic, having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Asthma, and THE worst excessive sweating EVER, just to name a few, is now a thing of the past. I am grateful I made the choice to save my life (Not an easy thing do when you're depressed)

There are numerous "little" things too that have changed for the better as well, But my big "aha" moment was when I realized IF I were able to eat anything with no problems and not be uncomfy at this stage, I know for a fact my old eating habits and my old "I don't care" habits, etc, would have crept back up by now. I did not go through everything I've gone through the past 3 months for that to ever happen!

My point is I did not have this surgery for a quick fix (Yeah, some people in my life still have not taken the blinders off in regards to gastric bypass surgery,  In my humble opinion, They're either clueless or closed-minded, some BOTH!) I chose this surgery as a way to force myself into CHANGE.  A lifesaving,  last forever CHANGE. I don't ever want to go back to the person I was before.

So I do what can do to get through each day, I'm learning patience, I'm learning discipline, I'm learning that being healthy IS the BEST way to go!  I'm having a great time learning too!

So with that I shall say adios for now. I will look through the topics and posts and gather some insight and support that I need. I will also say I am grateful I had this surgery, Grateful to be alive to say that, and grateful that I'll be spending the rest of my life WITH my Family, not just "with" them!

Thanks for listening

Took me a while to communicate on these forums.  What I like is reading all the experiences that people have and how similar we all are from aches and pains to food tolerances.  Anyway welcome aboard and good luck!

Thank you for the welcomes!

I forgot to add to my original post that I'm down 78 lbs, 20 of that was before my surgery.  My insurance company required a 6 month program before they would approve my surgery. At first I was bummed about that, But after awhile I was happy that is was a requirement as it gave me that time to learn more about the surgery, what to expect, etc.

Also, In March, approx 4 weeks after my surgery I ended up having to have IV fluid treatment because I was severely dehydrated after a nasty few days of not being able to keep anything down.  I was in the hospital approx 6 hrs a day (on an outpatient basis) for 3 days.  I still have days when I get sick after I try a new food, eat to fast, etc. But I'm learning as I go along and also know when to not take that "one more bite".  Those days are few and far between. I have many more good days than bad days.  I really don't consider them bad days anymore, Just little bumps in the road on my journey

I injured my back from all that straining and am now in physical therapy.  In my opinion I think gastric bypass patients should consider therapy before and after surgery to strength muscles that haven't been used in quite some time OR muscles that are now being used differently.

I sat in a recliner depressed about my weight and health, My muscles after surgery were like OMG, What is going on!  I do wish I had gone to therapy sooner tho
