Question for the VSG ladies with junk in the trunk!

Alright ladies,

I had my consult with my surgeon on Tuesday, and he was GREAT.  We talked about RNY vs. VSG, and I was leaning towards VSG.  However, he said that in his experience, he's had a couple of women who carry their weight like me (junk in the trunk, big booty, etc, lol) who just found that VSG didn't give them the results they wanted.  He said there's absolutely NO science to support that, and he cautioned that this was only anecdotal, but he just wanted to make sure he shared it with me, which I appreciate.  So, for the VSGers out there who previously had big booties, do you find that you achieved the results you wanted?  I know everyone's experience is different, but was just curious!

I had a huge butt that is now shrinking away. It's not tiny,  But definitely noticeably smaller. It used to stick out a lot more.

Thanks MAChick!  Is the MA in your screen name for Massachusetts?  If so, where did you have your surgery?  Providing everything goes as planned and insurance approves me, I'll be at Winchester Hospital.

I actually don't have much to contribute as I'm only a week and a half out, and am more spare tire than junk in the trunk,  sadly;  but I just had my surgery at Lowell General,  so I wanted to shout out to the MA connection.  :-) Good luck with your surgery whichever you choose!  :-)

I'm a sleever and am about 2.5 months out.  I had never heard this before but I find it interesting because I definitely piled on weight in my rear and my stomach.  I have lost nearly 40 lbs so far.  I've gone down 2 sizes in my bust, 2 in my waist, but only 1 in the hips.  It doesn't surprise me too much as I know I have most of my weight to lose there so I figure it will take awhile to get it off.  There are plenty of very happy veterans here who achieved goal with their sleeves and taking a look at their before and after pictures, I certainly would doubt that's true for all or even most.  My surgeon did tell me that bypass patients will tend to lose somewhat more weight and it usually comes off faster, but sleevers still do very well. Several of my other doctors were in support of the sleeve but not bypass feeling that there are more complications.  There is a separate forum for VSG and if you post there you will likely get quite a few responses about this.

I carry my junk in the trunk, and even with the DS, I still got junk in the trunk, so I couldn't begin to blame a surgery type.  Even with WLS, you cannot fight genetics.

I've lost 90lbs since January 1st.  2/3 of that was before surgery.  I have a lot of junk in the trunk - always have - but it is shrinking just like the rest of me.  I don't see how one type of surgery over another or even losing weight without surgery would change where your body is going to drop weight/fat.

Hi there,

I was told the same thing.  Though, I chose RNY due to my co-morbidities, surgery 6/2/14.  Two of my bottom heavy friends were told the same, all different surgeons.  They are 3 & 4 years out, healthy, look great & lost weight pretty evenly.  I do believe in genetics, weigh all your options & do what is best for you.

I am pear shaped. I am 10- months out with the VSG and have lost my booty. I still have curves but I have a flat bottom now. My tummy has shrunk totally. I am wearing size 2-4 jeans. I am very satisfied.
