Having A Hard Time
Hi Everyone:
I just had band over bypass surgery as well and having my gallbladder taken out on 4/28/2014. Right now I am on a liquid diet. I am allowed 4oz of liquid ever hour. They just placed the band within me, they did not fill it yet. I have to see the doctor next Thursday and they will fill it while I'm there. I have to say... I feel horrible. I feel like I am going through withdrawal. I gather it's just very hard being on the liquid diet. I'm hungry and my usual M.O. is to stuff my feelings down with food and I can't do that. Plus pretty much every other TV commercial has to do with food and then they scratch their heads and wonder why there is such an obesity problem in this country. I gather I fooled myself that it would be easier this time and it is in a sense. Now, I am second guessing my decision. Yet I really want to lose the rest of the weight. I want a better, healthier, more active lifestyle. If I can just get through this week, I should be alright. For those of you that do, may I ask for your prayers. I know I will get through this and it will be all worth it I just can't see it right now. Thank you
Hang in there. I found that eating was my coping mechanism and when that was gone I had a lot of feelings to deal with. I am still a work in progress. I saw a therapist and read some eating disorder books. Is there any weight loss surgery groups in your area? Support is very important. Good luck!
happily banded for 8 years
Hang on in there! You have just had an anaesthetic, a major operation and the trauma that causes to the body. You are on an unnatural, non-satisfying diet. Not surprising your emotions are all over tha place! It will get better!! Keep drinking! It does help.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Wow, you are brave to do the BOB. I hope it works for you (and it sounds like it is if you've already lost nine pounds).
It looks from your post that you've already had one WLS but haven't achieved your goals? When was your first WLS? Which surgery did you have? How much weight did you lose? Was it just not being able to lose enough or did you have regain?
If you originally had the RnY though didn't you have to do some kind of liquid diet pre or post op back then? Maybe try to think of what you did back then that helped you get through that liquid diet phase. It would be great if you could come up with some tactics you've used in the past and then just buckle down and get through this hard part. Will you go back on solids after the fill your band?
At any rate, good luck to you. When I'm struggling sometimes it helps me to just remind myself that I might be having a crappy day/time, but with every day that passes I am one day closer to being done with whatever the situation may be.
Hang in there,
amy
Amy:
Originally I had the RNY Gastric Bypass, going into surgery I weighed almost 600 pounds. I did well with it but did not loose it all and I did regain some as well. Yes, I had to go through the same routine with the surgery except it is better now. The last time I started out with 1 ounce of jello. So I am grateful that I get 4oz. Yes, I believe they will bump me up to a diet on Thursday. To be honest, I was depressed the last time around but I battle with depression anyway. It's getting better but I have my moments. If I have to I tr to take it once second at a time. I keep jumping on the scale as incentive and I am down about 15 pounds already this morning so I am trying to hang in there.
Thank you for your support!
I have the same issue with obsessive thinking about food. If I see it in front of me, I have to eat some. If I see it on TV, I have to get some. One of the articles I just read tonight was to limit TV, particularly in the evening. Of course, this is because we are being bombarded with commercials and images about the very thing we lack personal control over. Dr. Sharma (leading obesity expert) suggested to avoid TV shows and watch a movie if you must or at least, try and PVR the show you want to watch so that way you can skip through the commercials. Here's a link to his website's blog. Some good info in there. http://ch-weightwisemd.blogspot.ca/
