Restaurant Post.....

A couple weeks ago, as I was pre-op and ingesting liquids only, The Dude and I went to a restaurant together so he could have breakfast. Our work schedules are just about as opposite as humanly possible, so we try to get out for breakfast and conversation together on the weekends.

Anyhow, he ordered and I said no thanks. The waitress stared at me. SHE STARED AT ME! awkward..... So I said I already ate. (which was true...I had had my greek yogurt at home...). Then to fill the silence I smiled and told her that it is a great time  for he and I to catch up with one another.

She looked at us again and said "oh honey.....can I bring you a magazine to read while he eats?" and then shot him a most withering look.

uh....yeah....no

Methinks to never offer silence filler again!

I do not have a problem watching other people eat.  However people have a hard time watching me not eat.  I am on my 2-week pre op liquid diet.  I work in a small office and everyone else in the office went out for lunch together.  I was not invited to join them.   I had always been included in this group outing in the past.  :(

I understand they were just trying to spare me having to watch them eat and not be able to join them.  I easily could have had a glass of water, mixed up a protein shake and enjoyed the company.   Grrr!

OH!~ That's too bad! People really ought to be able to figure out that you are voluntarily in this phase and that you GOT IT!   I feel sad that you were left out, perhaps if you express that you want to go OR be the arranger of the event then they will get it.

Quite often my BF and I go out and he gertrs food and I get hot tea or coffee.. The only time was weird when the waitress was openly flirting with him in front of me .... Other than that I ignore any comments... Ge****er, tea, or tell them you may think about it.

We went out to eat after my first week surgery follow up. I had been on liquid diet for three weeks at that time and was so ready for "real" food. We ate at chili's and I ordered the chicken tortilla soup. I told the waiter that I was on a liquid only diet and I needed them to strain out as much of the solid as possible and leave off the tortilla strips. He was very friendly about it and brought the soup as ordered. It was so nice to get back into a normal meal pattern. Of course I had to drink my protein on the way home in the car, but well worth the trade off. And I had left over soup for a couple more meals at home.

I will say that reaction from the waitress was really weird. I sometimes don't feel like eating when I go out.I am 5 months out and I have been eating out since the first week I was home. I like to make sure I get some of my water in at that time. Plus I talk way too much also.

She was thinking the check is going to be small and so was her tip?My husband and I go out for drinks and our bill is like 5 dollars.I don't drink like I used to so the bartenders are like crap. But we do give them extra since they give me ho****er for my tea or water and I mix my Crystal light in it.

I remember one time when I was about 2 months out. Hubby and I went out for breakfast. I ordered something like 1 egg and a piece of sausage. The waitress said, Honey I don't think that's gonna be enough food for you. All she could see was the fat person that normally would have ordered the big breakfast combo. And nothing to drink, lol, I did give up on that and ge****er that I sip until my food gets there.

It it takes a while but soon you learn to order whatever you want.
