Say hello and introduce yourself!
Hi!! My name is Laura. I am a 47 year old single mom of two. I am determined to stay healthy for myself and my kids. I was not healthy or happy when I was obese. I am one of those people who used to put everyone else first. It took me until my 40's to realize that when I put myself first I am better able to take care of everyone else.
1) Where are you in your weight loss surgery journey? How are you doing so far? I am 5.5 years out from RNY. I have lost and more importantly kept off 200 pounds. My BMI is stable around 22. No complications. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
2) Any goals that you're currently working on? (weight, health or life related) Working hard to get out of debt. Now that I have my weight under control, I am trying to get all other areas in my life in order.
3) What words of wisdom would you share with others? After surgery, you must learn healthy habits. So many people post about regain and make excuses. Surgery is not magic. No matter how many times that is said, there are those who seem to be shocked by this.

I can relate to putting others first, I made the realization in college thankfully, it was trying to make others happy vs knowing what made me happy and taking care of myself.

1) Where are you in your weight loss surgery journey? How are you doing so far?
I am a year and a half post RNY. 118 lbs lost. BMI 22, and working on my health. I do not like to exercise and have joint problems.
2) Any goals that you're currently working on? (weight, health or life related).
Move my body more. It will become easier as the snow thaws I hope :)
Healthy food choices, I will always want to eat "bad" food. I try to focus on picking from a nutrious list of options, while at the same time allowing variety in small portions to avoid the diet mentality. It is a juggling act. 90 % good 10% allow for a bite or two of something just because I want it.
3) What words of wisdom would you share with others?
The all or nothing thinking has to stop. I don't need a huge portion to be satisfied. All mental
NO liquid calories except protein shakes ( juice, smoothies, shakes, etc) there is no restriction with these. I even stopped adding fruit, PB etc to protein shakes as it can easily double the calories of my shake.
Don't allow the carbs (processed) to creep back. I have noticed this happening a few times already and I have only been in maintenance for 6 mths. If I start wanting a certain carby item often I take it of the menu for a while.

My new life began in August 2006 with my decision to have a gastric bypass. I've lost 110 pounds and kept it off. My sweetest moment was when I could fit into my size 4 pants and be able to bend over and kneel down to play with my grandchildren. My goal this year is to get more exercise. I'm happier and feel better than I ever have. I've never regretted my decision to get the bypass. My best advice is to remember to use your weight loss tool at every meal and remember why you had the surgery. Above all, get your protein in and take your vitamins!
More exercise is something I think nearly everyone can set as a goal....or at least more active. Last night the weather was decent and there were soooo many people out walking, kids on bikes, etc nicer weather and more daylight...love it!

1) Where are you in your weight loss surgery journey? How are you doing so far? I am 29 months out from RNY surgery. I am doing very well. I have had little to no complications. I do not dump (not sure if this is good or bad). This surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself.
2) Any goals that you're currently working on? I have fallen off plan a bit and need to get back on track. Funny how many become complacent this far out from surgery. But I know what I am doing wrong, its just that I have to smarten up. Also to increase my exercise.
3) What words of wisdom would you share with others? That this journey is a life change. It's not always going to be as easy to lose weight as the first 1.5 years after surgery. Learn to eat healthy and incorporate any kind of exercise. Maintaining is the real work and as you get further out from surgery things become harder. You can physically eat more, your body changes, your hormones may change. You will always have the surgery tool, but how you use it will determine your long term success.
Journey is life changing and life long!

1) Hello, my name is Ron and I had Gastric Bypass surgery on 12/19/2013. I am currently down around 115 pounds and I feel great. I am doing well with my new lifestyle and have the support of my family behind me. My wife had WLS three weeks prior to me and we are working as a team to do well.
2) I have already met a few goals that I had. My first was to come off all of medications and I have. My second was to purchase clothes in a regular store and with some looking I can do that now. I am currently working on training for a 5k in the near future. I go to the gym 3 to 5 times a week and workout and I love the body pump classes. My main goal is to become healthy and extend my life.
3) My words of wisdom are to resist the temptations of food that come your way. When I have temptations I go the gym or do something physical to get my mind off of the food.
