Not Sure What To Do
I am trying to decide whether or not to try adipex or to bring the "weight loss surgery conversation" back up to my doctor. I'm morbidity obese at 25 and have been on a million different diets. I'm not sure if the surgery is for me. I've been told many "disaster stories" about the surgery. I even have an uncle who gained every bit of his weight back. I decided to find an alternative weight loss option because my husband and I are trying to have children and, mostly I'm just sick of being unhealthy.
Yeah, I read that in my research, but I'm willing to stop trying for the healing period, if it means I will have a healthier body for my child. Idk. I'm still torn. I would still love to hear some positive success stories because I've only heard mostly negative. Thank you for replying! :)

I'm in a similar spot, though I'm several years older than you. Pregnancy at this weight-- plus high blood pressure and sleep apnea-- has plenty of risks. I'm willing to wait if it means I'll have a healthier pregnancy, probably an easier time getting pregnant in the first place, and hopefully a healthier baby!
There are TONS of success stories around here, including posters who're 5+ years maintaining their loss. Heck, I'm 3 months out from my surgery and feeling great so far, just make sure to follow your post-op eating plan (i.e. no more junk food, lots of protein) and use your new stomach as a tool and you'll do great! :)

Come to the RNY board. There was a post just this week where someone wanted to hear positive stories and many great things were shared.
I was an obese 25 year old who had not one, but two children and spent the first two decades as a parent obese. It caused issues for me, for my boys and frankly, I regret DEEPLY not having gotten healthy before having had them. I wish I'd waited until I were 30 and fit vs. 25 and hugely fat when I had my first child. You'd be talking about three years before getting pregnant given that you'll have to go through the process (assuming you have a 6 month program) and then get scheduled and then lose the weight and maintain it for a period of time and be at least 18 months out and then get pregnant as I understand it. Now others may come on and say you can do it more quickly, but I'm only sharing what I have come to understand.
You do NOT want to be the fat mom in the Kindergarten class. You don't even want to be the fat mom in L&D at the hospital. It is a world better when you are at a healthy weight in so many ways and this isn't just about you...it's about your baby, too.
Good luck to you and please do come check out the positive stories. Think of this site as the evening news. How often do they tell you about puppies and sunshine and RAKs? It is mostly murder, mayhem, flood, power outages, rapes and robberies. The 'bad news' is what people talk about. Can you imagine the Real Housewives of any city if they were all nice and sweet as the ladies I have been friends with everywhere I have lived were acting? Show would be off the air in a FLASH!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

What concerns me is how you are drawn to the "negative". Sure, some people have complications, glitches, snags, etc., but I've never found this site to be full of horror stories by any means. Rather, this site has been a place of joy, success, and hope.
Maybe you're not ready. One thing for sure - this experience needs a positive attitude, especially going into it. You really want to consider making a list, on paper, of the things YOU feel are positive and negative about WLS. Good luck on your decision
Thank you for responding with your concerns. I obviously was unclear when describing the "negative" stories I've heard. Truly on this site everyone is very straightforward, clear, and I've read many positive experiences. I'm here searching for the positive because the people close to me who I've spoken to are very negative about the procedure, though they have not been through it themselves. Personally, I'm learning that this major life choice is ultimately my decision. It seems to me that the positive vastly outweighs the negative, especially in my situation. Again, thank you for responding.
