I had RNY March "08.  Have done well.  Lost 140 no problems.  In the last year my stomach has dropped drastically and I have discomfort and breaking out. Helps if I wear high Spanx.  I'm having trouble getting my GP to understand.  I no longer live close to my Dr.  Anyone else have this problem?  I'm on Medicaid in MO & I'd like to have the extra skin removed to help the pain and the extra pain in my back.  Thanks

Call Medicaid and see if it's possible to get your panni removed.  You may have to have documented problems with the rashes and pain.  Whether or not the doc takes you seriously, make sure he writes it in your chart and come in every time you get a rash to have it documented.  You can use that towards the "medical necessity" if they require it.

If you find yourself out of luck on all accounts, try using an antifungal cream in your folds to control the rash.  Something geared towards atheletes foot or jock itch is what you're looking for.  Put it on twice a day, then tuck thick paper towels underneath.  It's strange, but it really helps.

Keep going to the doctor-the one you saw already or a new one. Keep getting the rashes and back pain if any documented related to the excess skin weight pulling you down in front.

when there's enough documentation the insurance will usually pay for removal of the skin. Document any rashes, what treatments used-medications from the doc and over the counter.

Many use powders, athletes foot fungal cremes, deodorant, cortisone lotion, baby rash lotion, anti itch lotion, etc. Make sure you write down dates and what was used. If it's a doc's

prescription they will have it in their records. Many have had the skin removed by insurance as it's a "medical condition" and it's covered.

In order to get surgical treatment---what you really need---you're going to have to show 'medical necessity'. As Val says, get your doc to record your rash, EVERY time you see him or her.

But in the meantime, to feel more comfortable, here are a few tips.

After bathing, use a hair dryer to get your skin REALLY dry. Then, if you have an active yeast infection (which is what most folks have), use diaper-rash cream. For me, this usually clears it up in 24-36 hours.

Once your rash is in remission, use something like Gold Bond powder. GOOD STUFF.

If your rash is GONE, try this to prevent a reoccurance. After abthing and drying (as above), use Val's thick papter towels, or a cloth diaper. Or my solution---I'm a seamstress, and I made myslef some panties with a 'belly bra' in them. Basically panties with a 'cup', to keep my sagging belly from touching other skin.

The key is to keep skin from touching skin.

TY for replying.  I have been doing most of this already.  I'm going to keep at it since I know it's causing me trouble.
