This may seem like a weird thing to ask, but for those of you who had this hump of fat across your butt, you know as you gained weight and all of a sudden there it was. This big hump of fat that made your clothes stick out. Before i gained a lot of weight I was always told that I had a flat butt and then it became a big fattt butt. Not very pretty!!! So how many lbs do you have to lose to get rid of this hump of fatt?? Carolyn Faye

Does exercise not work it off? I'm treadmilling and walking outside every day. Maybe a personal trainer can help me with this. I cant stand to look in a mirror and see this hump.

Sorry to tell you this, Carolyn, but I lost all my weight (110 lbs.) and the hump of fat was still there. I was like you, when I was small, I had a flat butt, when I got big and lost the weight, there's that hump of fat. YUCK! When I went for my plastic surgery consult, I asked about the hump o' fat and my Plastic Surgeon told me that most people who lose a lot of weight have it and the only way to make it go away is plastic surgery. I had a LBL, so my incision is all the way around. I have the cutest, nicest butt you've ever seen on a 41 year old woman who used to be fat!! He got rid of the hump o' fat and everything else. Plastic surgery is a wonderful thing. Best of luck to you.

Actualy, that was the first thing that I started to lose. I've lost 110 and its gone or it just shifted downward with everything else.

The butt shelf! That's what I call mine... I hope I'm one of the lucky ones that loses it once the weight comes down. My mom lost the majority of hers so maybe it's a genetic thing. Jen

Start walking and it will melt away. I started walking at 4 weeks out from surgery and my legs, tummy, waist and hips really slimed down. I am in 8 in the waist but my legs, hips are a 6. I am at goal and weigh 135 and I'm 5ft 5inches. When you get to goal, I am sure it will be gone. Exercise is a must to change the shape of your body. You can loose weight with WLS but you will have a lumpy body, add walking and you will slim down. Anne 230/135 in maintenance -95 RNY LAP 3/22/4 exercise will get you to goal and keep you there.

OMG!!!! I don't know the answer, but I'm sooo glad you posted this!! It is one of those things, I wanted to post myself but hate even thinking about it, so it's usually not on my mind until I see it in a mirror. I am so upset that a few people said theirs didn't go away!!!! Oh nooooooooo. You know, I was very overweight for a long time, before I got this ugly thing. Then, just like you said, one day WHAM there it was. UGH. I know plastic surgery will get rid of it, but I am just going to pray, meditate, exercise, dance, voodoo, whatever I have to do, and hope that mine goes away with the weight loss!!!!!!! Thanks for posting, I know I'm not alone! Marie Lap RNY in 2 days!

Good luck on your surgery Marie. I know you will do just fine and pretty soon that fatt butt will be history!!! Please keep us informed on your hospital stay and when you return home. Remember to walk walk in the hospital and to use that lung spirometor to clear out your lungs which is very important. make sure you report any shortness of breath and unusual pain in legs. God bless you and your DR.:angel; Carolyn Faye

Carolyn, I had the lump or "The Shelf" as I always reffered to it. I started at 301 and by the time I got to 235, it was gone. Now my pants sag in the but area. But I'm not complaining. Rather have a flat butt than a Fat Butt!
