Hi,   I was approved by insurance for gastric bypass on Thursday.  How long  does    it normally take to get a date for surgery? Does anyone on here   have . Dr. Ditslear?

In the program I'm in here in Asheville NC I should have a surgery date as soon as they approve me.  Call the Surgeons office tomorrow and they should be able to tell you.  Merry Christmas

You should be able to get a date now that you are approved.  Call your surgeon's office tomorrow and ask for a date.  How soon that date will be depends on how busy your surgeon is, though.  You might get scheduled for two weeks from now, it might be two months from now.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

My surgeon gave me a date long before i was approved. Originally I was scheduled for Dec 18, but that date was pushed back to Dec 31 when it was discovered that i needed urgent parathyroid surgery. I was only approved for WLS last week.

Im so nervous dealing with insurance that i am sick to my stomach. I use blue cross blue shield of oklahoma. when i look up their plans it shows mine says it does not cover Bariatric Surgery (For Treatment of obesity/weight reduction) but was told if its medically necessary its acceptable. But after reading it wouldnt be covered im afraid they told me its acceptable just to get me to sign up with their insurance plan. Im almost afraid to continue seeing my surgeon if its just going to get denied because its not covered under their plan. Anyone know anything about insurance? I have a BMI of 63 and PCOS so i dont know if that helps any? But i dont have high blood pressure, diabete, or high cholestrol so I dont know if the PCOS and BMI wil help me get approved on a plan who says it not covered. :-(
