Is it anything to do with the bad breath you get from ketosis?   Like halitosis on steroids????

Is it thrush?  I think KIm's explanation makes the most sense.  I remember my tongue felt gross when I was in Ketosis.  

I remember my tongue felt really gross after the barium swallow I had to do also.  Barium is disgusting!!  

Yes, it is definitely not yummy. 

I frequently have to assess people's swallowing function with fluoroscopy and, unfortunately, I have to use barium in various viscosities (thin, nectar, honey, and pudding); I try to convince my patients they don't taste too bad, but they certainly aren't great. 

Speaking of barium...thought this was amusing. =)
