I am not handing out anything this year (my Chow "puppy" weighs 75 pounds, has a very deep and menacing sounding bark, and LOVES to shove his way past me out the front door, so it just isn't worth the hassle of trying to hold him back and risking him frightening or knocking over any small children!), but two years ago I passed out lower calorie treats like Twizzlers, gummies, and suckers. I also gave out small boxes of raisins to neighborhood kids whose parents I know, who know that the raisins wouldn't have been tampered with (I wrote my name on the boxes so they would know where they came from).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Good for you I feel the same way. They will get tons of candy but not at my house. A few ideas for healthier Halloween treats: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/10/trick -or-treat.html
LOL, we give out candy at this house. We don't have a lot of trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood and I don't want to be "THAT" house. My DH was very sweet to get a type of candy that I just do not like--tootsie rolls, lollipops, Laffy Taffy, Dots, etc. No chocolate! And he has put them on a high shelf where i'm not likely to get them. If I don't see it, I'm not tempted.
I figure it's up to the parents to teach their kids about healthy eating. They can take the candy and do what they please with it. The fun of trick-or-treat is getting the candy.
Nothing. But I bought candies for work.

I live in an extremely healthy district in (I think) the healthiest state in the nation. You rarely see an obese adult, let alone an obese child in my neighbourhood.
I'll be handing out candy and letting parents parent their children and their eating habits - they seem to be doing OK!!!
