How long did it take your insurance to approve your surgery?
BCBS took 22 days from the day my paperwork was submitted. (Their guidelines said it would take 15 business days and they approved on the 15th business day.)

I have Medicare and they don't pre-approve WLS.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
Does your UHC use Optum Health? If your UHC uses Optum Health's bariatric resources for determination, they have 15 days to make a decision. Mine took 7 for determination but they didn't' call me, I called them and found out on day 10 (which was a Monday) from the day my packet was submitted but they told me I was approved on Friday (day 7). I got a letter about a week after that. Dr Richardson's office isn't quick to call so you'll more than likely find out from the insurance company before you find out from them.
Oh and the docs office didn't send my packet off as soon as they said they would either. When I first started calling the insurance company, they didn't even have it and when I called the docs office, they told me the girl that put the packets together was behind. It took about 10 days for her to get my packet done to send off to insurance. I'd call and make sure you know the date the packet was sent so you can know how long the insurance has had it before worrying about determination.
