Exercise/calorie question
My calorie goal is 600. I would have no problem with that except for protein shakes bumping up my calorie count.
So I've been walking, biking, lifting weights, and entering it into MyFitnessPal. It seems like it gives me back a lot of calories, but I have no idea.
For example, today, I "spent" 588 calories on protein drinks, vitamins, and a meal and a half. Then I walked for 70 minutes - about 3 miles, so not very fast. I also did some weight lifting and crunches. The app tells me I've burned 421 calories.
So, should I eat another meal? Obviously, I won't eat 400 calories before bedtime, but can I have a salad? Or do I go by the original count and call it a day?

I don't eat my exercise calories either. A recommendation from the Health Institute I was involved with.
I haven't had surgery yet but during my six months with NUT, he told me not to count exercise calories and to just eat the number of calories he gave me regardless of what the program told me I burned in exercise. Do you have a NUT at your surgeon's office you can ask? Or maybe even ask the surgeon.
Good luck!

I guess I need to check in with my nutritionist. I'm not hungry, but I also don't want too few calories or too little protein.

Hi Avery
Do not eat if not hungry, unless you are below recommended protein levels. (Even then do not force anything.)
Kind of surprised you were thinking of salad because it is not a high protein choice. Also no matter what surgery we have, one month out seems a bit premature for raw veggies.
all the best, Katy
Salad usually means (to me) some lettuce, chicken, maybe a little hummus and some seeds (all recommended by my nutritionist). It's mostly protein, with just a little greens because she wants me to get some fiber every day.
My problem with hunger is that I don't think I feel it at all. I didn't end up eating, and I'll ask specifically next time I have an appointment. I think I'm just worried about messing up. And I'm frustrated by how many calories I "spend" on things I don't even like (protein shake).
