I am being told that I have to get a psychological evaluation. Which is fine but I have to pay for it Out of pocket. How much was yours and what else is a out of pocket expense? I am trying to get medicaid to pay for WLS.

Thanks

Kat

I only had to pay a co-pay, otherwise the full price would have been $125.

The amount was $107.85, and it was covered/paid for by my insurance.  Rather than a co-payment, we have a deductible which we met March.  Everything afterwards that is allowed under our plan is paid by the insurance 100%)

If you have medicaid, won't they pay for the psych eval?

I was told that this center at Ochsner has one that is 1000.00 and I had to pay for it. Doesn't make sense to me, but I need to find a therapist to do it that takes medicaid.

That is absolutely ridiculous!  NO psych evaluation should cost anywhere near that much!!!  Very typical amounts are $100 - $300 depending on where you live.  I do psych evals periodically in Ohio and our fee just went up to $200.

I am learning that I have awesome ins. coverage, and I found an even better Dr. to do my eval.  For bariatric patients, she bills the ins. and takes what they give her.  She wouldn't even take my $20 co-pay.    My surgeons office did provide me with a list of Dr.s that do evals. and their approximate cost.  I found mine on my own, and I raved to the office about her, and they have since added her to their list!
