Thank you Kelly-I will have to be re=checked in about 6 weeks-thats when my prescript runs out too.  Now that I know these things and realize there are so many symptoms from the lack or low D levels, I will be more aware and better able to keep on top of them.  Thanks again !  Molly P

I've just finished a prescription of 50,000 v-d 3. I had been having pain in my wrists and arms and was getting muscle cramps like I've never had before in my inner thighs. I had never remembered having cramps there. First one leg would start at my knee and shoot inside my thigh to my groin. Just as it started to relax, the other leg would start. Weird.  After taking one pill a week for 2 weeks, this went away. I have very little pain in my arms now and no leg cramps. I had RNY in 2005 and never had this prob before. I had blood drawn on last Fri. Haven't gotten my results yet, but I hope that the solution to this is as simple as taking a vitamin. :)

Hi - I was nor aware there was a prescript available for the D3 so if you have it you are indeed lucky.  Your symptoms especially the leg cramps in your inner thighs and groin area remind me of what i also had making it hard to walk!! Now it's mostly in my shins and lower legs and a bit in writsts.  I hope your problem is resolved too.  I am going to order D3 myself (fry) and begin using it in addition to what my md has me on.  Between them a;; hopefully I will get more normal ranges of vit d levels maybe even better!  Good luck.  Molly P.

Thanks and good luck to you, too. I should be getting my labs back soon. I'll see what happens then.

D3 is NOT available in prescription, only D2. If it was obtained via script, it is D2, and will not absorb as well with our bypassed intestines as the non-prescription D3, which is also available in 50k iu capsules.

My doctor also tried prescribing me the 50K D2 caplets (yah, those little green football shaped ones - they are oil). Our doctors aren't all knowing when it comes to post-wls folks.

You cannot get 50,000 IU D3 by prescription, only D2.  Did you get Drisdol, those little green football shaped things?  That's D2, not D3.

Actually you can get D3 by prescription. I believe it's the exact same thing as you get OTC but you can get it. My nephew gets it that way. His doctor writes a prescription and the pharmacy fills it and that way insurance pays for it.  But it's no D2 because I made him check. mail

Greetings:  My anniversary date is 9/17/2008... In 2010 I was diagnosed with [L]  27 ng/mL  Vitamin D...  I went looking for an OTC and found a sublingual tablet from SuperiorSource of D3 1,000 IU, 100 Tablets... Sold at Sprouts here in Sun City West, AZ. at Walgreens or on-line at: http://www.iherb.com/Superior-Source .  My last lab report on 3/5/2013 shows my Vitamin D at  69.7  ng/mL...  I was taking 2 tablets a day when I was first told of low Vitamin D and am now on just 1 tablet a day.  I like that these are sublingual tablets.  The cost per 100 tablets ranges from $11 to $15 dollars per 100 tablets... I try to get some sun cause tanned adipose tissue looks so much better than pale skin, LOL... But I'm afraid I might get skin cancer and I have little bumps appear under my eyes, so not too much sun tanning now.  Hope this helps and God bless you all!  Hugs from Gerry

My doc prescribed the D2 so more than likely I will continue with it also.  As Kellywrote Idon't think I'm in danger of any type of OD on the VIt D!! Thanks for your help and God Bless you too and good luck with the sun-we sure don't have much up here in NY!
