Very low Vit D
No, you're missing the point. Your advice is bad. And when people explain why, you dig in your heels and say we're obsessed. As if that somehow makes your advice not bad.
Btw, plenty of people -- including normies who didn't have WLS -- don't find their Vitamin D levels rises overmuch (or at all) with Vitamin D2. Count yourself lucky.

You are wrong! Good Lord, figure out what you are talking about before you advise anyone. D2 is not the answer. Research will tell you that, SHEESH! YOU CAN get DRY D3 at 50,000 units for ONLY $20 for 100 caps. And you don't need a script.

Linda, I don't think you can get D3 by prescription AT ALL. Prescription D is D2, which isn't very well absorbed by anyone, normies included. Plus, the body can't use D2---it has to convert D2 into D3, and it takes a LOT of D2 to make a little D3.
On the other hand, D3, even in 'dry' formulation, is readily available OTC. I buy mine sometimes from Vitalady, sometimes from Amazon---it's always the same thing, from Biolabs. 50K tabs, small as a saccharine tablet, easy to swallow, very effective. I think I pay something like $23 for 100 tabs of 50K each. Works really well. D2 SUCKS.
Thank you Kelly for your information. I had heard we don't absorb the D2 well that is why I was a bit confused. I will try and contact Vita Lady for the dry form. I have some D3 but it is liquid and not sure if it is in oil and might not be absorbed well. I will also ask the center why can't we just get a prescription for dry Vit D3? or a derivative? It can be so confusing at times!! Even after 5 years out I am still learning!! Thanks for your help!
D3 is not available by prescription. If your doc writes a script for it, the pharmacist will stil give you D2 in oil - legally, they are allowed to make certain substitions, and that is one.

You need to take 50,000 unit DRY D3 caps. This is the best absorbed. You can get them on amazon or from vitalady. Here is the link on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Bio-Tech-D3-50-000-100-Caps/dp/B000A0F 2B2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371494450&sr=8-1&keywords=biotec h+d3-50
The D2 is in oil and is harder to absorb. Get the dry D3 and take that.

They are very small capsules, easy to swallow.

Kelly thank you again for your responses! I know I have heard far too many times that after RNY surgery and some other bariatric surgeries as well, that Vit D is not properly absorbed or is mal-absorbed and thus we need to supplement up the wazoo (excuse the descript) but you get the drift.
I am contacting vitalady and getting that Dry D3. I am sure I won't be in too much danger of od'ing at this point so I will take that D2 from the doctor and between the 2 hopefully will get a normal level again.
p.s. before my WLS I was deficient in D and had to take supplements (I found this out only thru an endocrinologist not my regular doctor who it seems does not include this test routinely and in MHO it should be part of standard testing most especially for anyone living in the Northern climates!!
Thanks for all your help! (Also thanks to Linda-did not mean to start a war here, just looking to be informed and get my D level up! Thanks all!) Molly
According to the Vitamin D Council, to OD on it you'd need to take more than 100,000 IU D3 DAILY for a while, and they are talking about people that haven't had RNY, so no, you're not likely to OD on it. do get your level checked in a couple months, though, to see where you stand.
