Heyyyyyy friends :)

I'm just checking in .... It's been about 6 weeks since my RNY :) I am soo pleased at this point ... I have finally found a protein powder that I can tolerate well It's a tad "pricey" but it's the only thing that I can drink that doesn't make me sick, you see this surgery has left me lactose intolerant but it's a small price to pay for the HUGE benefits I'm already seeing ... I have been to see my dietitian a few weeks ago :) She said I am doing everything right ...

My Diabetes is GONE :) my A1C is 5.9 a few weeks ago when I was at the Diabetes clinic .. I am extremely happy about that ... I have lost 15 lbs since my surgery and 15 pre surgery .. I feel soo much better already being 30 lbs lighter ... My scrub tops when I went out for my surgery were a 2x and now they are large .. My pants were XL, they are now Med ! There have just been soo many positive changes ... I've lost 15 inches through out my body (all over, not in just one area) I still have a ways to go, but I'm on the right path ... When I started my journey in August I weighed 240 lbs and here I am 6 weeks out and I weigh 209 :) I CAN'T turn my nose up at that ... I am just soo very excited ... The night before I returned to work I had to find a uniform to wear to work so I went to my closet and picked a scrub top, I said to my husband "this is NOT going to fit me yet, it's a large" You see I expected to just be in a XL verses a 2X ... Hahaa I put that shirt over my head and put my arms in to my elbows (I can usually tell at that point if it's a go or a no) and it felt like a go, so I went with it .. Hahaa I put the shirt completely ON and I was like OMG !!!!! I CRIED and was SOO HAPPY :) I have to wear my yoga pants to work because I don't have any scrubs that fit nor am I going to be buying any until I am done loosing  they are way to expensive ... So anyway my first day back to work I had to wear XL yoga pants because that's all I had ... And after work that day I went to Target to see what I could find for yoga pants. (I had just bought those pants on Feb 15th) well I grabbed 2 large and 2 med just for the heck of it ... I tried on the large first, of course and they were also too big, so I moved to the med... Hahaaa PERFECT !! I kind of felt like the three bears with their pourage & beds LOL Anyway another HAPPY HAPPY moment in my journey :)

Oh & my protein powder is ViSalus yea it is $50.00 a bag but it is OH SOO GOOD, it also helps with weight loss :) I can't go wrong right ?? RIGHT !! I drink 1 shake in the morning with greek yogurt which kicks my day off with 35 grams just in that i "meal" ... I must say I am soo happy at this point ... It's all looking up from here :) My hubby & I go to the gym as a team, he's small but use to body build, so he's working on bulking while I'm working on tightening & we use the same machines for different reasons with different amounts of weights :) I see a personal trainer and things are looking up ...

    So here's my update at 6 weeks :) I am happy :)

Hi,

We are on the same path.   I had revision surgery on Jan. 17th.  Surgery weight was around 232 and my current weight is 209 lbs.  It is almost 8 weeks.   It is great to hear from another revision person who is losing around the same amount of weight.  I was somewhat disappointed initially with my weight loss because I was under the impression i would 20 lbs the first month.  So many others have had such quick results.  I met with my doctor and he said revision surgery moves slower and to expect to lose around 7 or 8 lbs  a month.  Now that i understand i am more accepting of the current rate of loss.

I wish you well and am very happy for you.

Lets keep in touch.

Michelle

Hahahaaa I felt the EXACT same way Michelle, at first :) But then my dietitian said that I was basically loosing 1.5 lbs per week and that it was AWESOME !! She also said that BECAUSE I didn't have a huge amount to loose that it WOULD come off slower than someone who had 100 plus lbs to loose .... We ARE on the same journey girl and we WILL do it "together" if you'd like :) I am SOO HAPPY you replied to my post :) I wish you well too & I would DEF. like to keep in touch :)

I have lost 35 lbs and am on only Metformin(1/2 dose). the diabetes is now normal and dr says I should be off Met soon. Yea!!!!!!!!.My joints are also happy I still haven't found a protein yet I can tolerate. I did fine before surgery but now I am Lactose Intolerant. Boo-Hiss!! Happy to find others who are with me in surgery dates.

Wooooohooo! It  is so good to hear about everyone's experience here!  Since I don't have a support group in my town...this site is it for me!  I had rny on Jan 22.  I too have finally found a protein I like.  FWI...if you buy protein powder at GNC stores they gaurantee it.  If you don't like it, take it back and try another.  Every morning now I have a protein shake that has 37 grams of protein.  Then I have one in the evening too.  I have also found that I have become lactose intolerant.  So I have switched to soy milk and I (sadly) stay away from cheese.  I have fought a lot of nausea, dehydration, vomiting and diarrhea.  I struggle (and rarely make) the 1000 calories a day I am supposed to eat.  I have developed a slight aversion to eating....I'd really rather not, but as time goes on I am sure it will get better.

Now for the good part.  I've lost 37 pounds.  My pattern seems to be to lose nothing for many days, then I drop 6 or 7 pounds all of the sudden.  I think I tend to lose during the days that I manage to take in enough calories for my body to let go of some weight.  I have gone from a 2x to an extra large in some things, 1x in others. My knees no longer bother me going up and down stairs.  I can get onto and off of the floor with minimal pain.  I hurry up the stairs rather than trudge up.  I like the way my face looks in the mirror.

My next goal is to start running again. I have always been a runner...even when being very heavy.  Arguably, it was not really running...plodding maybe.  But I competed in races and loved it very much. The last two years though age and weight had become my enemies.  Running just became harder and harder for me and more of a frustrating experience.  That and my climbing fasting blood sugar (109 preop) made me decide (after 8 years of consideration) to have the surgery.  I had also had a serious bout of cellulitis.....caused my having a sit down job and an obese body.

I feel better now...I am glad I did it and hope I continue to do well.

Good luck everyone!
