I realize I just had my surgery on Jan 28th but dang ... How long does it take to start loosing weight ?? The scales go up & down when I go to the Dr's I just don't understand ... Up 2-3 lbs and then 1-2 lbs ... I am staying right around the same weight all this time .... What can I do to bump up the progression of weight loss ??? A LOT of you said I am doing great and that it WILL happen !! Well, I am getting soo discouraged as the days go by and becoming more & more depressed about the LACK of weight loss ... Any advise would be greatly appreciated .. Also I went back on Protein shakes .... So THAT'S NOT the reason ... Please help me understand IF you can ....

I ONLY have 44 lbs to loose so WHY isn't it just coming off ?? I watched a program the other night called "My 600 pound life" Thise people had bypass and they dropped 30 to 40 lbs a month ... So what the heck is wrong with me and this picture ???

People that have RNY lose an average of 50% of their excess weight in the first six months.  So if someone started at 600 lbs, let's say they need to lose 400 lbs.  That means they should lose about 200 lbs in just six months.  But if you only need to lose 44 lbs, you would expect to lose only 22 lbs in six months.  Same percentage of excess weight, but more lbs for the heavier person.

Make sense?

And... you're asking when you will start losing weight.  So you haven't lost anything since your surgery?  You had RNY when you only needed to lose 44 lbs?  Why?

I lost 15lbs post op & 10 since my RNY & I had the surgery because I have 3 co-mobilities ... My BMI was NEVER high enough ... I had lap band for 5 years, it did nothing for me ... And I'm starting to feel like this is going to do the same for me ... NOTHING ! And yes I only have 44 more to go (I may want to drop more than that later on) But this is where I want to go first ... Anyway that's why I am not understanding why it's not coming off a tad faster since it IS such a small amount ...

Your body has experienced the trauma of a surgery, and everyone's body responds differently. You still have swelling, and also may be retaining fluids that they pumped into you during recovery.

Some people lose right away, and others don't . My first dr post op visit, I was discouraged because I had gained. Since then I have started dropping weight. It will happen, you just have to be patient.

I'm trying very hard to be patient ... I guess I'm just getting very discouraged due to the lap band ... Everyone told me to be patient with that as well and I lost a total of 17lbs in 5 years and gained it back plus some, sooo can you at least see why I am having a hard time right now ??? I CAN say that my Diabetes has gone away ... My A1C is now 5.9 woo hoo PRAISE GOD !!! But now I need to get the weight off so the Diabetes doesn't return ... And because I had the surgery to loose weight that other wise wouldn't come off by diet and VIGOROUS working out ...  Anyway thank you for your support :)

I know and understand how you feel. I have been stuck at this weight for a good week..... Did you speak with your doc yet? I had the lapband too and had my revision 4 days before you. Hey, it's 25 lbs lighter than when you had the band right?
