I had my surgery on 1/28 I was loosing weight (just a few lbs, but still was loosing) and now I am not loosing a damn thing !! I am getting VERY discouraged here ... I had the Lap Band for 5 years and it didn't work for me, and so now that I had Gastric Bypass done and I am getting SCARED like I am going to repeat the last 5 years of my life and lose NOTHING Am I just beating myself up ?? Is this "normal" ?? I am sooo upset to think that I went & did this and that it's NOT going to work !!

In my "support groups" I heard SOO MANY PEOPLE who already had their surgeries say that they are NEVER hungry and that they have to set an alarm to remind them to eat ??? Really ??? WTH I'm HUNGRY ALL THE TIME !!! I did the ALL "liquid" diet for 1 week (suppose to be 2 weeks) I couldn't handle it any longer, especially after already having to do it 2 weeks before ... But the foods I chose were yogurt (thin yogurt) not thick like greek yogurt ..And now I eat small amounts of butternut squash I'm not eating anything that would harm me or my pouch, I don't think BUT I am not loosing weight ... I lost 15lbs in the 2 weeks BEFORE surgery (Pre-surgery  liquid diet) and then since my surgery I've only lost 8lbs ... Is this "normal" ??? What do I do ?? Obviously II CAN'T work out yet but as soon as I can, I WILL be !!  Any thoughts, ideas or answers ??? Thank you all SOO MUCH !!!

First off Congrats on your sugrery. I haven't had my surgery yet but I have seen a lot of post about a stall (no weight loss) at 2 weeks out that normally last for a week or so. They pump you full of liquids during your surgery, some people actually weigh more leaving the hospital then they did going in. Plus you have lost 23 lbs in a little over 3 weeks. That is wonderful. Don't beat yourself up over this, your doing fine. And the hunger thing will work itself out, you have to give your tummy time to get use to all the changes that have been made.

Thank you soo much ! My hubby keeps telling me that but I am worried only because my useless lap band didn't work for me ... I lost a total of 17lbs after my band and that was it in 5 years ... I just don't want a repeat situation ...

I gained 4lbs of fluid & gas in the hospital :/ IT HURT .. I was SOO UNCOMFORTABLE !! But it finally went away 4 days after surgery ... I woke up a few mornings after that having had lost 2 lbs in my sleep and now I just get sad to see my scale going up 2 lbs and down 2 lbs .. But NEVER going lower then the same 2 lbs LOL Right now I weigh 217 so the scale will go 219 then back to 217 sometimes to 220 back down to 217 LOL GRRR Just frustrating .....

When is your lucky day ?? Congratulations on your weight loss this far THAT'S AWESOME :)

I found that my weight stalls at the same spots that I would stall on a diet.  On post op week 5 to week 8 (3 dANG WEEKS!!)  I didn't loose a pound.  But this week I have been 2-3 pounds a day!!!!  I think it is how your body adjusts to the change.  I have a friend that had her surgery 1 week before me and she looses 1/2 to 1 pound everyday.  Everybody is different.  hang in there,  it really works :)

yes,it us normal. Do an OH search for "3 week week stall" that is what you are likely having, but yours has come about a week early. There will be more stalls throughout the journey so might as well be prepared for them.

4# a week lost  since surgery is nothing to sneeze at,IMHO>

and yes, butternut squash will harm your weight loss. there are 22 gms of carbs in one cup and while I know you aren't eating a cup at a meal, you might be eating several cups over the course of the day.  it only has 1.8 gms of protein too,and protein is what you need ,not carbs.

Carbs are ready fuel, and as long as your body gets ready fuel,it will not burn your stored fat for fuel. burning the stored fat is how we lose weight. Eating carbs is making you hungry. If you eat all the protein you can hold you will be less hungry. The more carbs you eat the more you are going to want to eat.

What do you do? Stay on your plan, eat protein sources instead of carb sources, including protein shakes while on the liquids phase.  GL

Everyone has given really great advice. I would only add make sure you are getting your protein in, in the form of shakes or smoothies. Are you drinking all of your water? Don't know as J would do the squash. If you want something like that, I believe pumpkin is lower in carb content. But, really at this point stick with protein and pureed green veggies. Baby food.

The protein shakes make me sick :/ I wasn't looking at the carbs or any other label I was just looking for "some thing" that would stop the hunger pains but not stretch my pouch as I am suppose to be on liquids ONLY :/

Which shakes have you tried? Some are just gosh awful, some are tolerable, but some are great! There is also a protein fruit drink (similar to crystal lt. but filled with protein.) I get the sick thing! For a while, everything made me sick-to the point I ended up back in the hospital from dehydration. My skin was gray!! What about hot chicken broth, beef broth, or veggie broth? That should curb the hunger short term. Also check the protein source from what made you sick. There are several different protein sources. One of them should work. Please call your Dr. and tell him what is going on.
