I'm not a Fan of The Biggest Loser
Yes, this show is about entertainment, but I'll bet there are MANY overweight/obese people that have been inspired to change because of what they've seen on this show. No one makes the participants do anything. They sign up for it. They are also put through rigorous physical testing to ensure they can tolerate the exercise.
Think back on your journey. You were likely beat down, with little to no self esteem, and expected failure at every turn, particularly where diet and exercise were concerned. How many times did you give up, just at the point where you might of felt a twinge of discomfort?
These trainers KNOW what the signs of true distress are, just as any qualified trainer does. Physical therapy is NOT the same as physical training. Therapy is generally after a medical condition or for rehab.........you aren't starting with a healthy person, you are working with someone that has been sick or injured. Physical training is just that.......training the body to become healthier and stronger.....starting with a non -injured person.
These contestants have been turned inside out with medical testing. They are clear for this level of physical activity. If the trainers don't push them past their mental blockades, they might never know what they are capable of, and might never know the success so many of the prior contestants realized.
When I first started exercising, I wanted to quit because of a plethora of reasons....which were really excuses, which were REALLY just a lack of confidence in my ability to JUST DO IT. My husband pushed me past that point........and now, there is no turning back, and THERE IS NOTHING I CANNOT DO!
So all that being said, tomato, tomatto..........to each his own. I am inspired by the contestants on the BL. I don't look at them as entertainment, they make me proud of what they can do, remind me of where I've been, and make me want to continue to challenge myself.
