I'm not a Fan of The Biggest Loser

I've been to physical therapy at our local hospital after each and every stent I had placed in my heart arteries, in 2003 til 2004 when i had that heart attack in Oct.2004 Had Open heart surgery then I had Physical therapy again.. Each time i started Physical Therapy the trainers told me when i am working out and start to feel any kind of pain, my body is telling me something.and I should STOP working out.. well i have been watching the biggest loser show and watching it now on t.v. ..I see Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper working them people to death with a exercise program, i see them people in so much pain while exercising so i'm thinking why does Jillian and Bob keep attacking them to keep up the workout even though they are in pain?!! BTW i start phyical therapy again Jan 12th 2013 for this 2nd heart attack and 8th stent placed in me 2 weeks ago.. are Jillian and Michael really certified trainers? Hope so...

                      Peace\/ Wendy

Full disclosure: I don'****ch reality TV so I've never actually seen The Biggest Loser. Reality TV embarrasses me and I have to leave the room.

That said, it's all for entertainment value. These people put themselves in dangerous and humiliating cir****tances for entertainment (and money). The trainers are certainly certified (I have some Jillian Michaels workout DVDs myself) but they are entertainers and actors FIRST.

So that's why they--the participants and trainers-- do it. For fame, for entertainment, for money.

I saw commercials the other day for the Biggest Loser and I was disgusted what people will do for money.  What is sadder is the people so get into these reality shows and it's all pre planned and scripted way before taping.  Why don't we watch amputees struggling to walk without a leg and watch someone with no hands try to eat.  Fat people are still considered a freak show and people love to laugh at other's expense.  But no one forced these people to go on the show so I have no pity what so ever for them.  This is a hot button issue with me, so I agree with you.  Jane

I personally love the show. I think it reaches people in a way that they weren't reached before to think about getting healthier.

Yes they push them through the pain but they also have a medical team at the ranch monitoring everything.

Remember that in a one hour show you are seeing the "best" clips of hours of taping. Just like a 10 hour day of wedding video is condensed to 2 hours. They exercise 6 hours a day and you see mulitiple days per episode. There is much we aren't seeing.

Agree 100%.....one season they actually showed all of the doctors and specialists on the ranch. We got to see the full medical team available to those on the show.

They have thorough medicals before being accepted on the show and you most likely would not pass the medical with your heart condition.

They also have a disclaimer before every show telling people to get medically cleared before starting to do any new exercise regime, so you would have to discuss with your PCP or heart surgeon.

The show can be very motivational for many, for others there's always the off switch.

While I think Jillian Michaels is a mean spirited bully, with her own set of hidden issues, I have a love/hate relationship with the show.  I love watching people get their life back and get healthy.  I hate that the show is so darn commercialized.  But hey, that's how they make the big bucks!

I'm with you. I love seeing the people succeed lose weight, but Jillian, to me, is an exercise nazi, everything I loathe about that type of personal trainer.

And I can't believe that no one on that show had dropped dead yet. They must have some damned good paramedics on staff.

Jillian and Bob are certified trainers, duh. No one is holding a gun to any of the participants heads.  Some people just always want to play the victim and Jillian/Bob see right through it.
