Looking to figure out what's wrong with me and my high blood pressure issues..

I have been battling this for about 1 yr. on and off my blood pressure raises to 208/108 periodically which seems to be for no apparent reason, even just after taking my same blood pressure med Lisinoprol 5 mg.as i have done for years. sitting still at my computer desk the pain will start getting stronger in my heart , On a scale from 1-10 the pain is about 7-8 .i'm home alone as it always seems to happen every time the pain gets stronger ..so no stress would be the cause.same type of pain as when i had my 'heart attack' i have no pain going down my arms , i do have a small amount of numbness in my left hand and around my wrist..I have been to the E R many many times with this same issue. with all the tests i am given , nothing comes up with the cause other than my blood pressure is high.. I always call my pcp when this pain occurs just like this morning. All i'm getting is go to the E R from the nurse's. Every time i go to the E R they find nothing wrong with all the tests etc ..Just that my blood pressure is high. Wondering if anyone else that has had prior heart surgeries had had this same issue and found the cause??

I have maintained my weight loss and make healthy food choices 90 -95 percent of the time. once in awhile i enduldge in a piece of candy. so i know my arteries are good to go. I had double bypass in 2004 and last i knew i had a 3rd arterie 30 percent blocked. anyway i see this as no reason for having blood pressure like this. I recently switched from reg coffee to decaf with creamer. Had this for breakfast and a banana this morning.Am tired of running to the E R every time, the pain does subside eventually after a half day has passed.

my 35 yr old son said he thinks i get one bad apple of a blood pressure pill.. is that possible? well i am wondering if anyone has continued blood pressure issues after heart surgeries..thanks and Happy Holidays.. Peace\/ Wendy

It appears that you are doing everything correct but don't mention family history...I do know that genetics will play a role as does other health issues. I'm 59 yrs old and have already outlived the age both my parents...they died at 55 from heart disease...WLS diminished my high blood pressure and diabetes but given my past health sins and family genetics, it's an uphill climb to stay healthy...and I still drink regular coffee! So keep up the good work...and hopefully the pain will eventually stop...good luck!

Has your cardiologist done a cardiac cath recently?  I wouldn't be relying on my PCP for this kind of problem.

Wendy,

Just read your profile and the following statement struck me:  "Though i have had wls, I would never recommend it to anyone."

May I ask why?  I'm preop and am trying to learn all I can.  I didn't see anything in your profile that indicated problems/ complications from the wls.

Thank you.

For everyone one of the people would would not have this surgery again there are many many more that would have it again in a heart beat. I just wish I had had it 20 years ago.

Patm,

Thank so much for your response.  It's reassuring to know that most people have had good experiences with WLS,

It is somewhat disturbing to see statements like "I regret my wls" with no explanation....very confusing to the newbies.

So thanks for taking the time to help me out,

Kathy

I doubt anyone here has the medical experience to help you. I would suggest seeing your doctor to figure out the problem. And no a bad pill is not the answer.

First of all..Lisinopril 5mg is a tiny dose. If your BP gets over 200 then you are going to need something with a little bit more of a kick.  I would start with that.  That's an inappropriate dose for that high of a BP.  Go to your doc and talk to them.  That's the best advice.  You possibly could have an arhythmia.  Talk to your doc about it.  That's the best advice.

You asked for a heart  patient to respond, well, here I am.  I had a massive heart attack in 94 with a lot of damage and a triple bypass in 99. I have taken many meds throughout the years and ate right and exercised and feel pretty good. I was in an auto accident and could not walk well for a few years and the weight piled on. I had a defibrillator and a pacemaker implanted in 09 and did well with it. In Nov of 2012 I was strong enough to have the RNY. My diabetes had been out of control and I was in kidney failure. After surgery my surgeon took all of medicines away. Even my heart medicines. I felt like crap after about 3 weeks and had chest pains so I went to my cardiologist and he put me back on my two heart meds. One is lisinopril 5 mg I take that at night and in the morning I take a toprol XL. That's what I take for my heart and bl pressure. You need a specialist...a cardiologist not a PC. You have a special condition that needs monitoring. Do you have angina? maybe that is what the pain is and there are meds that help with that. I take Ranexa twice a day for angina. It's a deep pain in my chest that kind of feels like a hot poker going through my heart. I don't have it anymore with the Ranexa. You can also try some nitro when the pain comes and see if helps you. A heart cath is done as a last resort because it is invasive and could be dangerous. They should run an echo stress on you and cardiogram which I'm sure the hopsital did a cardiogram and maybe a regular echo. You need to get an appt with a cardiologist. I refuse to go to any other doctor when it comes to my heart, I want the best. I will always and forever have to take my heart medicines and I'm okay with it. Just so glad to be rid of the diabetes and the insulin and all the oral meds I was on and also my kidney function is 70% better since the surgery. I feel great. I agree with the others you need more meds for high blood pressure. Your heart and kidneys could be suffering damage with your high bl pressure.
