Surely this decision would be between you and your cardiologist, Wendy.
No one here has any knowledge of your medical history - other than what you report here - and so a recommendation or anecdotal story of their own case would be absolutely useless.
I suggest you make an appointment with your cardiologist to discuss the reaons why you want to get off of a medication he is prescribing for you.

I was simply asking for any heads up if someone was able to get off their heart meds P O and live ok. Wasn't asking for a lecture, I know to talk to my cardiologist. geeeez. I am asking to get some heads up if its doable.I must be the only one here with an open mind. Doctors have known to be wrong at times. my heart seems to do ok when i drink decaf coffee and not eat so many carbs, ..but in the back of my mind i still have some concerns

Sin Kim was not giving you a lecture. She was giving sound information that she would give to anyone one of us. Many people with heart conditions, heart surgeries and heart transplants are required to stay on heart meds the rest of their lives. In the grand scheme of things, 5mg of Lisinipril is a very low dose and a fair exchange to maintain the health of your heart. We cannot escape all medications regardless of WLS or anything else. Only your cardiologist can make this call. I had a dear friend who decided to quit taking all heart meds 15 years ago because she was feeling pretty good, she said. After ending up in the hospital for 2 weeks and almost not making it she said she was crazy to even think she could do that without consequences. WHY, after heart surgery and with 7 stints would you even think about wanting to get off it in the first place???? Doctors have been known to be wrong at times?? OMG I think your cardiologist is a pretty savvy physician and probably knows a hell of alot more than any of us. Obviously whatever cardiologists you have had SAVED your life through surgery so I say he/she knows what she is doing. I have never posted to you before, and I will catch a lot of flack for this, but reading you posts for a long time now I am afraid the doctor you really need deals with the mind to help you with your issues. This doesn't apply to me, but thought I'd mention a family member that had quadruple bypass and lost lots of weight. He is still on meds and was told he'd have to take them for life.
Have you discussed this with your heart doctor? Is there a specific reason why you want to stop taking it (side affects), maybe there is an alternative medication you could discuss with your physician? I wouldn't recommend you stop without discussing it with your doctor, I'm sure you know this right?

Hi there!! I've read the posts, and mostly the replies. Though I think people are giving some sound guidance to you, I don't think that's what you were asking. Like someone giving birth, we all know that we will have our own experiences and not one will be the same, but we still ask everyone how their delivery went....LOL, so I get it!!
As stated by most, the ultimate decision will be your doctors. He is the expert in your heart, or as close as it's going to get, and listen to him.
But to answer what you were asking for in the first place, yes it's possible! Does that mean it will happen to you, maybe yes, maybe no. We are not all made the same, nor do we function the same. I have a stent, I've had the heart attack, I was on 15 pills per day prior to my surgery three years ago. Blood pressure, diabetes, blood thinners, cholesterol, asprin, etc, etc, etc. You know the drill! 2 years and nine months post op, my physician took me off my last crutch, cholesterol meds. I do remain with a very stubborn Thyroid problem, and that's finally stabilized, and therefore, that is the only medication that I take now.
Bottom line, we know that we did damage to our bodies prior to weight loss and some of those scars will not go away. So if a mild dose of meds is working to keep things in good functioning order, then we can't really ask for more can we?
Best of luck, and continued GOOD health!! :)
I have heart problems. I had RNY on 9/11/12. My surgeon told me I would be off all my meds including my heart medications. Came home feeling great and off all meds. about two weeks home I wasn't feeling good and knew it was my heart so I called my cardio and went in. He was upset that my pills were stopped so abruptly after surgery and he put me back on Lisinipril 5 mg and Toprol XL and a baby aspirin and prevacid for the aspiring therapy.
I had a very serious heart attack i***** and was left with alot of heart damage. I had a triple bypass in 1999 and in 09 I had a defibrillator and pacer implanted into me. Because of my heart damage, I will forever have to take my heart medications. I feel wonderful with taking the meds again. I was taking 14 medicines 2X a day plus insulin and oral medicines along with another injectible Victoza. I am off all of those meds. I only take the two heart medications and prevacid and the baby aspirin.....all for my heart.. I think you should follow your cardiologists advice when it comes to your heart he knows your history.
