Drinking w/Meals

I think its a personal choice... I will choose to follow the plan as it is outlined to me because quite frankly I am not having my insides altered to go against what my surgeon tells me to do...

If you choose to do what you want to..that is fine as well.  Regain happens for a lot of reasons, not always associated with drinking while eating, could just be as simple as eating the wrong foods.... either way what works for one person wont always work for another.  I hope you never experience regain...I hope NO one ever has regain..

Its kind of that whole do as I say not as I do mentality... for some people drinking with eating will cause regain....

I also don't get the purpose of this post.

A few weeks ago you were here telling us how you don't bother to stay hydrated while you exercise for hours on end --- and almost died because you go out in the heat of the day withou****er.

But now you are talking about how successful you are because you drink with your meals.

You seem to be a bundle of contradictions.

I didn't have RNY but I had VSG and one of our big rules is don't drink and eat at the same time. It is like one of the top 3 rules. I can EASILY see why some people can have a regain if eating and drinking at the same time. If I don't wait at LEAST 30 minutes to drink after eating, I can tell. I drank some water about 15 minutes after eating one time because I was out in the Texas heat and felt parched and I went from feeling full to feeling the food flush through. It was at that moment that I knew why they say don't eat and drink at the same time. Also, my sister had RNY and has kept off every ounce she lost for about 7 years now and she NEVER eats and drinks. Of course she follows most of the other rules too so that probably helps :-)

Now for the lady who HAS to drink and eat at the same time because of sleep apnea swallowing issues--I can understand that. I believe you when you say you can't swallow your food because of it. I am just glad that it hasn't caused you to regain. I don't think you should say it's okay to eat and drink at the same time though--because some people will have a problem with that. After my personal experience of drinking even 15 minutes later and feeling the food kind of "flush through", I know for a fact that I would not feel full near as long if I did that on a regular basis

The part you never bothered to learn is WHY.  With the RNY, the fluids wash the food out of your pouch, rendering it empty, making you want to eat more.  Officially, it's not the drinking with meals that makes you gain weight but the extra calories filling that empty pouch that makes you gain.

With a sleeve stomach, being that they have a plyoric valve, this isn't the case.  It still poses a challenge, though, because it fills the stomach of the precious space you should use to fill with good foods, making it difficult to eat much.  As the stomach stretches (and it will), it becomes easier to enjoy drinking and eating at the same time.

Really and you had an rny and know this to be true?  Seriously Val, it doesn't wash anything out of your pouch, if I drink a protein drink why am I not hungry again in a few minutes if this is the case?  Drinking with your food does nothing other then make it moist.  Its a myth that if people want to believe go for it.  Not drinking during eating is also half the reason rnyers have teeth issues because the liquid cleanses their mouth, but hey what do I know, I only live with it every day.

And for the record I never post that anyone should do what I do, because I doubt it would work, I post to find what works for you and stick with it and if people think my approach to eating is unhealthy then maybe they should follow me to the doctor where she told me she wished she had my blood test results because I am the glowing picture of health, with a perfect bmi.

Personally I know a lot of weight loss surgery people in real life, not just online. And the ones who never got to goal or have regained a significant amount of weight DRINK WITH THEIR MEALS. It is a common denominator. I'm not saying all people who drink with their meals gain, but those I know who have gained, drink with their meals so I choose not to 99% of the time. Whether or not this is a myth, I really don't care. Drink, don't drink. We all have the right to choose. Not drinking with my meals works for me and that's really all that really matters. Period.
