Garden of LIfe Raw Protein

It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla, and unflavored.  I was wonder if anyone uses it for preop diet and post op diet?  I like that it is all natural /organic/ vegan and non dairy and that it has fiber.  I noticed it's a bit gridy so I'm not sure if it's okay right away for a post op until maybe a few weeks out.    I like the protein to be a tad higher and the carbs to be a tad lower but I figure if you don't mix it with milk and only mix it with water that's all the carbs you get.  Any opinions?

I didn't care for the Garden of Life, but love the SunWarrior Classic Rice raw vegan protein. It also comes in chocolate, vanilla and plain. Vanilla is 70 calories for 16 grams of protein, chocolate is 80 calories for 16 grams. I always double scoop to get 32 grams of protein.

I found the chocolate doesn't have that much chocolate flavor so I add Hershey's Dark Chocolate cocoa powder. Since I'm doing that anyway, I just get the vanilla - that way it's more versatile. Some simple favorites - for all of them, just blend all ingredients together in blender:

Dark chocolate shake
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 scoops of the vanilla
10 drops of Stevia or a pack of sweetner
1 Tablespoon cocoa powder
5 ice cubes

Berry smoothie (not good until you're on whole foods due to small seeds)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 scoops of the vanilla
10 drops of Stevia or a pack of sweetner
1/2 cup frozen berries
For variety, add 1/2 tablespoon cocoa and use blueberries. An amazing combination

Pumpkin smoothie
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 scoops of the vanilla
10 drops of Stevia or a pack of sweetner
1/3 cup canned pumpkin
cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves (or pumpkin pie spice) to taste

Sounds good.  I'll have to try it.   Thank you for the suggestion.

I noticed in the reviews that it also has the grittiness which I don't really mind it doesn't affect taste to me.   However do you think I will need to wait some time post op before I can use it because of causing irritation to the staple line from the grittiness.  With the Garden of Life raw protein I was thinking the same thing..  (obviously preop diet okay)  Wait 6 weeks? up to 3 months?  I'm not sure I've heard with seeds and nuts 3 months.  However back on solid foods after 6 weeks.   In the meantime I'll have to use egg protein minimal whey protein.  Dairy makes me too congested.

Not at all. This stuff is like talcum powder almost.

Note - I didn't like the Warrior blend. Much prefer the Classic Protein. Both are complete proteins.

Oh okay.  So just like any other protein powder.  (whey, egg not gritty)

I'm thinking I'll give it a try for my preop diet which I start in a few weeks and see from there if I want to use it after surgery.

Thank you!  :-)

my biggest concern with it is that the protein source is not whey isolate,it is brown rice, first ingredient. Seems like you might as well liquify a bowl of browwn rice and save some money.

Hers is a list of natural protein powders that do have whey isolate or whey concentrate.

and the syntrax nectar line has a naturals product as well.

Good luck

I can't have too much whey as it bothers my sinuses and I get allergies from dairy.  I have to limit it.   So I was going to switch it up.  Whey 1 day, egg the next and vegan the next.
