Health Insurance Premiums??
So I have been researching insurance through employers, and I just wanted to know what is a reasonable premium through an employer if their health plan is to cover WLS? If you guys don't mind sharing, who is your employer health insurance and how much is your premiums? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

guess I'm confused. are you talking about differentplans/companies that your employer offers during open enrollment or are you looking to change jobs to get the insurance you want?
I would think the cost of premiums would be directly related to the number of ppl in each offered plan.
I pay about $ 450 a month for my insurance and it has a high deductible and an exclusion for WLS.
Yes,you would think for that much premium it would cover WLS,but it also epends on how many employees are in the company...the more employees on the plan, the less the premiums are for everybody. There are only 5 employees in my husbands company and at least 2 of them have insurance thru their spouses so that is why the premiums are high and the employer didn't choose extras like WL. Good luck
I self paid in MX for $4000.00 plus 100.00 for one night hotel and 600.00 for two round trip plane fares plus spending money for MX. best money I ever spent, bar none.
Every insurance company has a variety of health insurance they can offer employers. The exact plan depends on the $$$ cost to the employer, with likely copays or deductables for the employee. If the employer feels they can save $$$ by offering insurance that excludes WLS, then that is their choice. I had my RNY with a cost of around $100. $10 office calls to my surgeon, and a copy for hospital. Surgery itself was paid for by Kaiser, my wife's insurance when she was working. $0 was my cost for surgery iteself. BTW, if you can get insurance the covers WLS, hang onto it. Getting a new health insurance plan after RNY can cost your more money in premiums, or you may have to wait until 2-5 years post op before some insurance plans will cover you. DAVE

My husband's employer offered a few different insurance options. We really wanted to go with Kaiser and they offered two Kaiser plans - one was $71.00 a week and had a high deductible and higher office co-pays with a $500.00 a day in hospital co-pay. The other was $76.00 a week and offered a $10 office visit, no deductible and no charge while in the hospital - we went with that one. The insurance covered the total cost of surgery, the only money out of pocket I had to pay were for my office visits with my doctor. The total cost for me was under $100.00 (not including my vitamins, etc.).
When it was time to choose the insurance, I already knew I wanted to have surgery, so I read the information on each plan VERY carefully. I had Kaiser years before and I already knew they would cover wls so I was excited to go with them. My husband's employer did offer other insurance and PPO's which I really like PPO's but I really couldnt afford any deductibles.
So do you research very very carefully and read all the information - if you have to call the insurance companies to gather more info.
I don't have insurance through an employer, I have Medicare, but my premiums are $99.90 per month.

Thanks so much for the insight everyone. I will try to get find out everything Monday. I was just curious and wanted to see if I had a reason to be anxious. lol I hear that it will be some great insurance, but great to me would be me hearing they cover WLS. The full premium for an individual plan is $290.00 while the premium for a family plan is $967.00. The cost to me for the individual plan would be $70.00, and for the family plan it would be $165.00. There is a $15.00 office visit copay, a $500.00 deductible, with a $900.00 out of pocket maximum (that is including the deductible). Inpatient hospital and outpatient hospital is covered at 100% of the allowed amount (no deductible or copay for the inpatient hospital, but the outpatient hospital stay might be subject to a $25.00 facility fee. Sounds good so far to me, but let's just pray that they don't tell me they excluded WLS. Have my fingers crossed. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks
