7 year anniversary today
I hope your weight goes back up and your health issues improve. Sending healing wishes your way.
:( sorry to hear you're not doing so good. Would you share with us newbies how these 7 years have been? have they been filled with medical issues or pretty good for the most part? what have been some of your biggest struggles thus far and is your current medical issue related to the surgery? God Bless and hope you feeling better soon!
Well, for the last 6 plus years, life has been wonderful and it still is. I would just like to focus on the joy of having had the WLS. I weighed 240 lbs at the start. After the surgery, I followed the doc's instructions to the letter! and I think that is the key to success. I didn't deviate one bit. There's no more to say. I lost 230 lbs total and kept it off. No medial issues at all until this past February. I stayed healthy and happy. Just follow the instructions. When I go out to eat, and I still do this, I have the waitress bring a to go box right away, I split the meal and put it aside. I finally had a glass of Coke after 6 years, stayed away from carbonated drinks. I still don't drink beverages with my meals. I didn't eat bread for a year. It took about 2 years for the bulk of the weight to come off.
The medical issues aren't related to the WLS, I don't think. They found a pancreatic lesion, thought it was cancer, did all the tests and came out with a clean bill of health. My struggle now is that I weigh in at 93 to 95 lbs, can't find clothes to fit. Just turned 62 and I'm too old to be this skinny. It doesn't look good. I hope this helps. Once again, the only thing I did is very simple, follow the instructions, don't deviate. Don't say, "Oh, I can have a little bit of that, it won't hurt".....Yes, it will hurt. It will throw your metabolism into a tailspin. Good luck all.
I'm sorry for that. I don't know where I wrote that nonsense. I started at 240 lbs and lost 130 lbs not 230 lbs. That must have been a typo. After losing the majority of my weight and struggling with gaining a little at the 3 yr mark, I stay stable at 109 to 112 lbs for a long time until I this past February when I got sick and my weight went down to a very scary 93 to 96 lbs. I am now seeing a GI doc who has no idea why I have lost this weight. I had all kinds of tests thinking I had pancreatic cancer, but all came back clean. Now, I am having another MRI/MRCP and consulting a hepatologist. So, my apologies. I'm glad you picked that up so I could clarify that.
Hi Kathleen,
I had my RNY in 2007. With all the complications that I have had the biggest lesson that my husband and I learned was that NJ doctors are not as knowledgeable in Bariatric Surgery complications. You need to make an appointment with Dr. Steven Raper out in the University of Pennsylvania. His number is 215-614-0382. He's rated in the top 10 in the United States and he is wonderful. Even if its for another opinion. Good luck to you and I hope that you can find out some answers quickly. It sounds to me that you are having some absorption issues. I was too and it was because my pouch had collapsed so I wasn't absorbing. I will keep you in my prayers.
