I'll reward myself with NON-food things now.

Some of the things I do are very simple like go outside and enjoy my backyard that has beautiful trees and a couple of bird feeders, buy a song from iTunes that I like, rent a movie to spend time with my family, going to the library to check out a couple of books, go to Starbucks, take a drive and take photos of whatever pulls at me.

There are so many more non-food things that are much more enjoyable, fulfilling and healthy!!

 • Clothes shopping (for your smaller sized body!)

• Manicure or do it yourself at home with a new polish color

• Getting a new book

• Relaxing in a bubble bath

• Get a massage

• Do something fun in your area, like visit a museum, catch a baseball game, or take a walking tour of your nearest city (great exercise too!)

• Do something crafty. I love knitting and rarely have the time to do it, so this is a treat for me!

• Make a date with a friend. Even better – make it a walking date!

• Download some new music for your workouts.

• Purchase a new kitchen gadget, like a steamer or grill pan, to make healthy cooking more fun!

Ways I reward myself:

-do it yourself manicure and pedicure!  I also include my daughter with this one.
-a new magazine.  I love magazines that focus on home improvement decorating, fashion fitness and parenting etc.  I dont do this very often and it becomes a real treat.  Most of the magazines i get are second hand because this is a huge money saver.  So the rare occasions where i get a brand new magazine that only i have read are a real treat!
-trip to the second hand shop or clearance racks.  Again, I am a single mom of two and money is tight.  A new or new to me shirt or outfit, purse, belt or skirt is a real pick-me up
- MEEEEE day.  On MEEEE day, i focus on myself only.  I get up, pack the kids off to their dad or to my folks for a visit, exercise, take a long hot bath and deep treat my hair, paint fingers and toes, spend the day doing things i enjoy like crafts or reading or walking or bike riding, fix my hair and make up and head out for the evening with the girls.  These are EXTREMELY rare days.  I love love love them!  No housework allowed, no work allowed.  Just a focus on all the blessings and little things that make life awesome.
-i add a song to my cheapy mp3 player everytime i complete all my scheduled exercises for the week.  I have a huge library of songs on my computer so this costs nothing most times.  If there is a brand new song I am dying to put on it, it can cost under $2 to do.
-movie night.  our new life is so busy that we don****ch movies like we used to.  sometimes rewarding myself with a night where i can relax and watch a movie is just the ticket.
-time.  that's right a lot of what i do for rewards is allow myself time to do those things that get lost in busy life.  time to craft, time to read, time to cuddle, time to play ball in the yard without stressing over the handful of dishes left in the sink, time to check out the fall leaves with the kids, time to get to that corn maze at the fall festival, time to ENJOY life.  without guilt over whats done and not done
-my home is not something i really cared about at 450 pounds.  like myself, i didnt take care of it.  so when i want to reward myself, i look for ways to spruce up a room on the cheap..or free.  I just COMPLETELY re-did my daughter's room (which hadnt been done since she was a baby and she is 9!) for under $100.  She got a new paint job, her furniture was updated with paint (some from sample jars as she did a varying scale of pink with gray as neutral color), new to us wall shelf from a garage sale, new bedding, and clearance curtains that she adores.  It was actually less than $100 to do everything thanks to some elbow grease and clearance and yard sales.  We are going to work on art for her wall by taking dresses she wore at father/daughter dances and cutting them to fit different sized frames, adding some fake flowers, a piece or two of old costume jewelry, some ribbon and of course the picture of her from the year she wore that dress.  cool art that's personal to her.  (and totally cheap for mom)

I am sure there are other ways and I just cant think of them right now.  I do know that I dont spend a lot of money when i reward.  Most of it is an allotment of guilt free time to do the things i love, that i often wont do because of my busy schedule.
