Vitamin D intake
I'm on 7 of the 50K IU per week, with a 104 for D labs. I did incremental increases. First labs post op were an 8. Script D failed to do anything. I began using a liquid vitamin with 600 IU daily and in 3 months my D labs were at 33. On 3 of the 50K IU dry D3 per week, I had a 44. On 4 per week (2 years later now), my labs were at a 65. I finally though, OK, it's been over 5 years now, and I still haven't gotten to the target of 80-90. So I began taking one of these 50K IU daily for a year. I finally got a little above 90 to 104. My bariatric was fine with that number. So, yes, you can increase your D with 50K IU capsules. BUT, do so in small incremenents, not a starting point of 7 per week. DAVE

4000 IU D (make sure it's dry D3, not in liquid softgel) may not do much to raise low D levels. Check your next labs carefully for your D levels. The desired levels are 80-90, not what the old charts say for D. My bariatric doc likes levels of 50-100 as normal range levels, with preferred numbers being 80-90 or slightly over 100. I don't know why 4000 IU is such challenge to "get in" unless your're taking a bunch of small doses pills. My 50K IU dry D3 is a small capsule. DAVE

Anyway, I suggest you get the 50,000IU 'dry' D3 from VitaLady. It's a tiny little pill, and you only need to take one a day. If your doc has given you a prescription for D, it's doing you no good. The only D available as a 'script is D2, which has to be converted into D3 in the body, and it takes a LOT of D2 to make a little D3. Also, it's oil-based, and you malabsorp fat so you're not even absorbing all you're taking.
