When the doctor tacked an adjective in front of my condition...
When the doctor tacked an adjective in front of my condition... when he added the word MORBID in front of obese and told me I was morbidly obese my heart skipped a beat and I KNEW I just had to do something ... yet it was when I could not make it up a flight of stairs to help my daughter who had taken a fall and was crying for help and the paramedics and firemen moved me out of the way where I was trying to drag myself upstairs that I KNEW I MUST DO SOMETHING .... I could not do it alone ... I needed a tool ... and was so happy to have WLS as an option ...
Having five co-morbidities in remission .. no more sleep apnea, diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux, hypertension or dyslipedemia .... Having increased mobility to the tune of five 20Ks ran so far and loving marathon swimming ... I am living my life post WLS one day at a time, one choice at a time ... I am living my later years with health and mobility and totally grateful for the availability of weight loss surgery options to help me along....
There are awesome surgical options to research and to choose from before signing an informed consent ... RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH and choose what is best for YOU!!!
I capture my journey in my digital empowerment journal that I have named 'A Picture A Day Keeps the Pounds and the Inches Away'
This is my empowerment collage today ... 5 years and 7 months post WLS ... I pay it forward sharing snippets of my journey...
I still have disproportionately large thighs even when I and weighing in today at 124.5 lbs - at a total loss of 203 pounds from my highest recorded weight before surgery and maintaining.... I will forget all plans for a thighplasty .. I gave the money I saved for it for a better cause that was much more important than ridding myself of the shrinkles on my legs .... I gave it up for a miracle and I am grateful...
BESIDES HEALTH AND MOBILITY I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY TO LOOK JUST LIKE I DID WHEN I LEFT HOME AND THAT I NOW LOOK LIKE MY RL SISTERS AND MY FAMILY BACK HOME AGAIN ....
My youngest sister on the left and my eldest sister on the right (my mom RIP spaced us out 2 years apart ... then came our baby brother 6 years after)
My eldest niece on the left... my eldest sister in the middle ... my youngest niece on the right
Thanks for allowing me to share SNIPPETS of my JOURNEY....

Might be TMI, but I knew I was in trouble when I had to worry about personal hygiene because I couldn't really reach the places that needed to be scrubbed, and had to rely on sponges on sticks and hand held shower sprays.
And I literally had one of those funny/horrific moments where I walked down a hall with toilet paper trailing behind me from under myskirt, and I had no idea it was there.
So glad I never had the trauma that you did of watching my child and not being able to help, although the years of standing by and not being able to participate in her fun activities should have gotten me going.
This obesity isn't just a killer of life, its a killer of the spirit!

Totally agree with you Judy .... and can so relate on the embarassing trailing toilet tissue on a couple occassions thank goodness for the tricking water that called my attention to its presence .. in addition to having broken toilet seats or having them come off the hinges ... SIGH ....
I have had some horrific funny moments post WLS too though ... I had to tinkle so bad but the ladies room was broken and I was handed keys to the men's room ...so I went in there and did my business and on the way out and totally not knowing the advances in'automation' even in the restrooms I bent over to tie the laces on my sneakers and felt all this friggin' water sprinkling all over my head ... lo and behold .. I HAD TRIPPED THE AUTOMATED URINAL ... shoot me somebody!! I went in to tinkle and got trickled on by the automated urinal as I stoope to tie my laces ... gotta love it .... I came out of there and 'dared' anyone to ask me what happened ... I was alternating between embarrassment and being ticked off LOL....
