Remember when we lived to EAT and now we eat to live? It's kinda similiar! Make more spend more, money isn't everything, ya know? And I just finished a 12 mos stint of being laid off and going thru all my savings! But I'd never go back to WS! Mo I don't run a charity I work in education!

Wow this is very much true for me. I left a good job (full of cold people), started volunteering and it changed me too. I may not have such a 'cushy' job now, but in my heart I feel it's worth it more then material goods.
Good on you :)

One important thing you did mention was the I ..................that means you was involved in the failure of this process...as we all are...that's why we got Obese.  The only time it fails is surgically and when that happens...Death is the outcome. So given that you're 10 years out and that you're inside as still the same way it was redone...the surgery did not really fail.  With all that you went through and ppl in general go through in life...what fails is that our mindset doesn't change.  We have to take a look or a 2nd look at those people who ARE successful at this and see what is different about them and us...who let things slip away.  What are we doing?? Are we eating right, are we exericsing because that is part of the process.  Having surgery - doesn't GUARANTEE that it will be 100% successful if we don't work at it.  There is no magic pill, no rubbing oil that makes it go away.  Im writing this...but Im talking to myself because I let myself go and had to make the decision to have a revision when in the first place...I would have never thought to do this..and yet here I am. I pray to learn the 2nd time around because the 3rd can result in me dying due to a unnecessary complication...As you said...we need to make it work!!

Ruth,

I did what I was supposed to do.  I trusted my surgeon to make my pouch a certain size and he did not.  I also, in 2001/2, wasn't aware that the stomach would stretch. I like MANY RNYers thought it was "forever".  Many of my fellow RNYers with the dr, are now having revisions due to his "conservatiness".  Was it 100% his fault, no, but, I am not going to take 100% ownership of the failure.

I am a roactive person so I decided lets revise. I thoguht about this for mos, weighed options.  I know there is no magic pill. But, I will tell you, when yo have a revision, your repsect the 2nd chance 1000X more than you did that initial surgery.

what do you mean about "conservative" with the size of your pouch? Conservative to me means he made it very small. Is that what you are saying?

If that is what u are saying

No, he didn't make it very small.  I saw both a pre-op endoscopy/ct scan as well as one 9yrs post-op and they are very similiar.

I am about 7 weeks post RNY surgery. Had procedure done June 20, 2012. My sister had hers done mid-April. It appears my pouch is larger. When I asked my surgeon how small my pouch is, he replied small. I asked how small. He said I can eat 4 to 6 ounces. I feel hungry alot. Nights are hard. When I compare notes with my sister it seems she is doing so good. At my two month check I only lost 18 pounds and was told I was below curve about 15 pounds. He added tht I lost more than 10 percent of my weight pre-surgery. I really feel frustrated. Some days go okay but for the most part, I am hungry.

Suggestions?  Comments?

Thanks!

Of course it's not forever  -- of course pouches stretch.

We only have 12-18-24 months of true full on restriction.

Surgeries rarely fail -- we do.  I am right there with you.

I disagree! They do fail bc a good portion of my friends who had surgery with him in 2002 are having revisions and then late 2003 he started making small pouches like the others in the practice, so u tell me? I rake partial responsibilty but not 100%.

I am 2004, as is my husband.  My MIL and SIL are 2006 and 2007.

I have no idea how large my pouch was made -- but -- I do know that the original pouch no longer exists in the fashion I was given it.  LOL.

I can eat 8-12 ounces now -- whereas I started at .5 ounce.

It's normal for a pouch to mature -- and stomas to stretch.  This is why we have to re-learn our eating habits in that first year.  Regain is also quite normal and to be expected with RNY.

I'd revise too just as you did -- if I can't get a handle on my current gain.
