I was told that I will be having a EGD to check my stomach before surgery and that I will be under concious sedation. I have sleep apnea and am on a cpap machine. Has anyone else had one of the done with sleep apnea? Any problems?

As long as your surgeon knows you have cpap, your anesthesia doc will adjust your meds for the procedure. I had a colonoscopy, and discussed this with the anesthesiologist. I was told that since I used a CPAP, I would not get the normal sleep meds, but a ****tail, that would allow me to wake up easier.  Keeping sleep apnea a "secret" from any surgeon is somewhat dangerous, since normal sleep meds will likely cause you issues in recovery that may affect how long it takes you to wake up, or in extreme cases, whether you wake up at all.  Should not be an issue if all the docs know you have sleep apnea.  I had sleep apena and slept with CPAP before losing so much weight and I did fine with EGD at one time I was having one done every 2 weeks.  Just make sure you are calm and that that doctor and nurses is aware of it.  Good luck.

Thanks, im definitely not going to keep it a secret. It scares me but knowing they can make adjustments makes me feel much better. All of this is so foreign when you are just starting out

I had an EGD and I had sever sleep apnea prior to surgery.  It's better but not quite gone yet.  I had no problems at all.
