I would have liked to have known and did research on the DS. But I
am happy with my RNY. It was the right surgery for me.

I wish I would have done it sooner.

Definitely NOT.  I had a great surgeon and a great recovery.  I wish that I had continued my involvement with a support group, pursued nutritional counseling, and hired a personal trainer during the 2nd year.  The 1st year was easy for me, but learning new habits and changing a lifestyle is harder to do after that initial 1st year.  People I know personally who had WLS and did this for 6 months to a year have been able to keep their weight down.  I've gained almost 40 lbs. since my inital weight loss.  If you pursue any WLS, please join a support group and do regular follow-ups with your surgery center.

Only one regret and that is I didn't do it sooner. I am feeling better, off diabetes meds, down 1 BP pill and my neuropathy is much better!!!! I am only half way to goal so my expectations and recovery are so much better then I thought at this stage!

I could not be happier with my RNY gastric bypass.  Less than three years ago I was 300 pounds.  Now I am 165, have 10% body fat and running a mile in %;42.  I hiked five miles last night and ran the same hike this morning before 6am.  It has saved my life.

But, it is only a tool.  Every surgery for weight loss can be failed.  Look at people's profiles from different surgery types, look at their pictures, look at their successes and make your own decision.

Best,

Despite the challenges and few medical issues, I would do it all over again.  My RNY gave me the boost I needed to develop a healthier lifestyle.

I have not had the first regret.  I look and feel awesome for an old broad.

This surgery gave me my life back for sure, only better.

You can what if yourself to death, and chances are none or very few of the "what ifs" ever actually materialize.

If you are feeling so uncertain, maybe have a few sessions with a therapist to sort out the head business before making a decision.

Good luck!!!

If you are looking for the regrets, I suggest you go read the regrets, failed surgery or revision boards here. It is eye opening to see what problems can happen with what surgeries, and how common they are.

I wish I'd done more research the first time, and would be avoiding a third surgery.

I first had the lap band in 2005 and completely regret that nightmare!  Revised to RnY in Sept 2011 and the only regret is that I didn't do it back in 2005 instead of the band.   LOVE,LOVE the RnY!!!

I chose the band because it was supposedly the "least invasive".......2 surgeries and a near death experience later I know how wrong that was.

Only regret is that I didn't do it sooner and spent many many years MO that I didn't need to.

Have you researched the Sleeve/VSG? Given your BMI of only 35.8, it might be a very viable option for you. It's a restriction-only procdure like the Band, but unlike the Band it doesn't require inserting a foriegn object, and there are no follow-up fills and un-fills. IT WORKS. And it preserves the pylorus and all normal stomach function, unlike the RNY/gastric bypass.
