Horseback riders..I Need Tips
Hello Riders.. Meet another rider.. me.. I am about to attempt to ride horse for over 6 hours this week end for the first time. My longest ride was 3 hours..OK I am diabetic and of course 5 years PO with 9 heart surgeries.and think i may always need to use the ladies room (if you will) along the way. Once i get on a horse I dont get off unless i am done riding, there is no where with tables or step stools to get back on the horse along the way.. Will be bringing my liquids with me on the ride. It's going to be 90 degrees... BUT!! there is no where to use a ladies room on a trail ride with about 160 other riders..
I'm wearing depends for butt comfort. Did i just tell everyone i wear diapers?!!!lol.. Sshhhhh.. :) thats no problem.I am wondering if it would be wise to eat more salt just before i start my ride to keep me from having to go to the ladies room. What about certain carbs to keep my blood surgars from going too low while riding?, I have that happen at home and i worry if that may happen on this trail ride.. i need all my strength to ride for 6 hours.thats just the first day, the second day will ride for 4 hours...I cannot lope without holding onto the saddle...any other tips is greatly appreciated. My boyfriend is just not to compassionate about my special needs regarding my extra health needs..thanks and Happy Trails ...Peace\/ Wendy

The Depends 4 butt comfort is a WONDERFUL idea :) . Good luck, Wendy with Ur ambitious all-day rides ..sounds awesome!
I would defitely take some sandwiches and trail mix with me as well as horse treats (carrots n apples ). Lots to drink too...definitely . PLEASE take some wonderful pics and tell us how it all went .
MY experience with hiking in Western state parks is that theyre a lot bigger than U thought and further from civilization and generally noone ever brings enough FOOD . So I bring a ton and share ...and so far nothing has ever remained uneaten lol.
I wouldn't worry too much about the bathroom issue - among 160 riders some are going to need to go REGULARLY lol...
the organizers of the ride have to have thought of the how and where of bathroom breaks I'm sure if they ever organized anything before lol.
I know on the historical City hikes we do we make scheduled and FREQUENT rest room stops . The fact is ladies need to pee three times more often t han men do and some ladies need more often than that ( and men with prostrate issues too)
I'm sure theyre bringing some kind of lightweight step stool with them to so people can get off their horses ..and some kind of cover if only the bush is available . U MIGHT want to carry biodegradable unbleached toilet poaper if U have some handy.. and bury it in the sand after use . Have a GREAT time !!!

Monostat makes a Powder-Gel product in a small tube.
I put it on places that skin rubs skin and it keeps me from getting a rash.
It doesn't take much and a tube will last me for along time since I don't use it everyday.
If you aren't going to be getting off your horse to pee you might want to use something like that just in case you leak. You don't want to get a rash from being damp.
Your blood sugar issue will probably happen on the ride because you are using way more energy than just staying home.
To bad you don't have some kind of folding stool you can carry on your horse with a string that you could lower down and get on and off without help.
Wish I was going to have your problem. I don't have a place to keep a horse anymore so I go to me daughter's house and pet hers and help her son learn to ride.
Best wishes and good luck. Hope you will post on Monday how your ride went.
