I had Repitory failure right after my open heart surgery ...I am a Open Heart Surgery respitory failure survivor..My voice seems to be different since the accident. it seems that i have noticed the change since that time.. .but i could be wrong too... Is anyone else experiencing this same thing that has had respitory failure?? it can be from any type of previous surgey you had that resulted in respitory failure. i am trying and have been trying to figure out if my voice change is from that, or if it is due to hormonal changes that happen during menopause. Just seems to coincide right after my respitory failure incident... I was 46 at the time of my Open Heart surgery..Let me hear from you please.. i will be 55 in June....Wendy

Never had either, but thought maybe the voice change has come from some scar tissue around your vocal cords. This could be a result of extended time on a vetilator with the tube down your throat. Just a thought.

Wish you the best

HI! My mother had lung cancer, and due to the deterioration in her lungs she suffered about 8 different cases of respiratory failure, she would be put on the ventilator and each time she was removed (sometimes week, or week and half later) her voice would be harsh, and scratchy but her voice stayed the same. She did complain more often of a sore throat, and had to clear her throat more often as well. Otherwise she had her same ole voice. :) I hope that helps you. God bless you, and take care of yourself! :)
