How big of an impact do you think having low thyroid levels has on weight loss?

I started on thyroid meds a few months ago.  It hasn't changed my weight at all by itself.  The only thing that has changed is my energy level.

Having a low thyroid, hypothyroidism, affects your metabolism.   If its not treated it definitely can have an effect on your ability to lose weight.  Depends on how low it is, and it usually takes a few months to bring the levels up after starting on thyroid hormone.

I have hashimotos Disease where my immune system attack the thyroid. I would have to say it affects it tons. I can diet exercise and it seems like nothing happens but it affects my energy, my skin is dry, I sleep to much, also it affects my mood. Until you have a low thyroid or Hasimotos you have no idea or adversly it affects you.

I had my thyroid removed 6 years ago. With medication I am back to normal.  I`ve lost 26 lbs in just over 2 weeks since my surgery.

There is a wonderful web site called: stopthethyroidmadness.com

Lots of info especially about Armour Thyroid meds, which is an all natural thyroid med.  Armour is the very first thyroid med that came out about 120 yrs. ago.  It didn't get the FDA approval until the last few years because it was pre-FDA.

Go to the web site and do some research.  You'll be glad you did.

I take a medication that is similar to Armour but is a compounded medication...they make it special for me. I so appreciate all of your feedback. After the surgery I was so focused on eating correctly that I slacked off on the thyroid. I'm back on it now, but I haven't lost any weight in 3 weeks, and I've been wondering if it is because of that...or part of the natural ebb and flow of weight loss.

Thank you so much for your feedback!
