Has anyone ever tried fundraising to assist with surgery costs??

I so agree with Nan from San.  Look, in today's world there seems to be no limits or degree of decorum.  I am 59 and I cannot imagine things people will ask or do.  I know times change, but some things never do. Such as something like this.  I think many of us are universal on this one issue.  Good luck on your surgery.

I am with you - I am in NY - on the NJ border so I know what you mean - it is in poor taste - they just dont do it.

It's unlikely that even if you did set it up -- you wouldn't make the costs needed -- and you'd receive SO MUCH BACKLA**** would hardly be worth it.

I assumed I'd "save enough money" for my plastics when I started blogging in 2005.  6-7 years later, I still haven't done it.

I hear ya!! It was just a thought. BTW...I love your blog. I rely on you "veterans" to share the good, bad and the ugly with us. Thank you. It is refreshing to get honest opinions without being mean spirited. Hey...you need to get the bad girl shirts & hoodies added to your web store

like the others said - before you go through your surgery -please find another surgeon.  I dont know from personal experience only from what I read but what I read was really scary.  Do a search on here with the surgeons name and you will come up with some really scary posts  = you have to search each board separately - I think.  There were several people maimed by him and ended up on lifesupport and not sure if they lifed or not but from what I read, they were better off if they didnt'  = it was really bad.  They couldn't get the surgeon to respond or do any follow up treatment - the incisions were open, infected and eating away - no treatment, no phone calls.

Please run, dont walk. there are other qualified surgeons in Mexico if you cant afford to have surgery here in the states.  It isnt worth your life

there is no reason you couldn't do a bake sale or a craft sale thing.

Then you are actually performing a service and no one needs to know
why you need extra cash.

I believe you can rent booths at local fairs and such for as little as
$10.

Good luck,

Dani

Thank you Dani. I was thinking along those lines. I knit. Too bad it is the wrong time of year for beanies. I can sell them for like $5 - which is a $2 profit. Slow but steady wins the race. Have a great day!!!

Fund raising can mean many things. Like selling donuts in front of Lowe's every Saturday morning for years so my daughter could attend debate tournaments! Or could do any number of activities that take money.
I have no objection to fund raising. Do it fairly, sell a service or items that people like to buy. Hey try candy bars!
Make custom Tee-shirts for various holidays, bake cookies or cakes, make quilts and sell them.
That is the American way, and it's called earning it. We can call it fund raising, but what is a job but routine fund raising??? Be creative, and get busy.
I tucked away every dollar I could scrape out of our budget, cleaned friends' houses, made and sold custom Tees for family reunions, or birthday parties, or holidays. I sold Avon, made gift baskets for various occassions, and believe me I'm not especially talented!
It took me over 2 years to save for surgery in India, and I immediately started saving for a TT, and breast implants as soon as I got well from the WLS. That took another 2 years of saving.
I passed on vacations, meals out, shoes ( my addiction!) and new clothing.
If you set up an account for donations, then you will probably get negative feedback. Most people, even those of us who are formerly fat, seem to believe being fat needs to be assigned fault, and deserve no help to get the treatment that really works to lose weight.
Ignore the negative comments for the most part, and figure out what will help you and go for it!
Just don't give up, if it's worth doing, it's worth figuring out a way to do it.
