Its a sign when you hear bad and bad and bad on some doctors.

and NOT all doctors have bad feedback. ?? Of course, not all doctors have bad feedback.

Are you REALLY having Dr. Almanza do surgery on you???  Have you researched him?? If you haven't, I suggest you do so.

I see nothing wrong with doing a fund raiser for a surgery, it would be awesome to get underarm plastic surgery for me since i know i will never be able to pay for it alone.. ..I've seen on t.v. people ask for money to have life changing surgeries for children and such..like heart surgeries..cant think of those others right off, but yea i am all for it...

Awww...thank you! I was beginning to think I was CRAZY!!! I think it is a very personal thing...either like it or don't. But just like anything else, if you don't like it, then don't touch it. I don't think anyone here on these websites should slam someone else. You can give your opinion (nicely) and then leave it at that. This website has been alot nicer than another one I asked this same thing on. I was in tears yesterday. Geesh...can't we all just get along?? LOL. Have a blessed day!

how can you compare the surgeries that people campaign on tv for children - they are usually for children that have no chance to live - not an elective surgery because you want to lose weight.    LIke the other posters said, sell stuff, get extra jobs, ask family members - but dont ask othes it isnt right - you will just have them resent you

Many who have bariatric surgery have it so that they can *continue* to live.  It's not always about bad eating.  There are medications that will mess with your metabolism and make you gain weight.

One of those medications...prednisone...is the reason I went from 200 (difficult but doable without surgery) to 405.

I had my DS 2/25/2009, lost 245 pounds.

I still need the prednisone, but thankfully, only for the most severe flare-ups.  There is other non-steroidal maintenance medication I can take now, that works to minimize the symptoms of my illness.

One final surgery...excess skin removal (infections are a problem), and I will be ready to try to get off disability and have a life again.

BTW...the weight was not the cause of my disability. The treatment for my illness caused the malignant weight issue.

HW 405/SW 397/CW 138/GW 160  Do the research!  Check the stats!
The DS is *THE* solution to Severe Morbid Obesity!

I wonder if its' a culture thing.  Back home we dont' do fundraisers for things.  We just don't do that in New Jersey- not for personal things.
In Texas they do fundraisers for everything- funerals, weddings, sweet 16's, overdue electric bill... No, I'm not making this up.  I have had requests to buy bbq plates for these kinds of things.
Just the way I grew up, I find it in very poor taste.  I would expect people would probably talk about me for the rest of my life.  Just not worth the humiliation.  I would do it myself or from help from immediately family- or not do it at all.

Start weight:  252 pounds

High weight:  268 pounds

wow..that is interesting. And you are right. I think it may have to do with being a culture thing. I would be offended if I got an invite to a funeral, sweet sixteen, weddings, etc and was expected (or asked)to help fund the event. Different strokes for different folks I always say. Have a great day!
