Had RnY a week ago yesterday.  Doing really well, actually.  Having bouts of nausea, and I'm so thirsty I can hardly stand it.  I also have the nastiest taste in my mouth all the time!  It's a sort of coppery taste, I guess.  Especially when I get up in the morning.  It almost gags me.  I think I've seen some answers to this kind of thing before.  Care to refresh my memory please?  Anything I can do?  Anything I could be doing to cause it?  Why can't I get enough water???  I sip all the time and I'm still so thirsty!!  Any help is appreciated.

Sip throughout the ENTIRE day, and then sip some more!  :)  That nasty, metallic taste is from  called KETOSIS!!!  That is a beautiful word becasue it means you are burning fat!!!  :D  It will be around for a while.  Carry sugar free mints and drink lots of water.

Thanks, Chris.  Will the nausea go away?  Is it just that I have a baby pouch?  I'm having to force myself  to get the full liquids down.  Everything is just YUCK!

I know what ketotis is but had no idea thats what that funky taste was/is!  learn something new everyday.  I sipped like crazy to get rid of it.

It is one of those things we don't like to talk about much. The bad breath.

It will go away just keep something minty with you for when you talk to people.

The thirst thing, man oh man that was bad. My body just wanted me to
guzzle the water! My tummy said NO! Just keep sipping even when going
to the rest room (gross Yes) but you should always have water in your hand.

"IF YOU HAVE TIME TO BREATHE, YOU HAVE TIME TO SIP"
this is your new motto.

And yes, SIPS not GULPS!  We have to re-learn how to drink and eat.  You will also want to chew (when they let you chew) each and every bite at least 25 times!!!

Best,

Dry mouth, and stomach acid in overdrive don't help the bad breath equation. I always do listerene in the a.m. I have been told by a naturopath that drinking a shot glass of water with a bit of lemon juice first thing inthe morning will balance out the stomach (can't remember the word she used, tonify? Is that a word?) and help with bad breath.

I had the VSG but I also had a similar issue. I contacted my doctor and he upped the amount of prilosec that I take and voila the bad taste went away.
Hope this helps!
