2 months pre-op and i'm eating like a pig!
i feel as if im never going to eat food again after i get sleeved, and the anxiety is killing me! i eat everything in sight, i eat to the point where i want to throw up, i never used to eat like this but now i find no satisfaction in food and i need more. help! i dont want to gain more weight i want to loose it but i also feel like this is my last chance to enjoy what i really love to eat, like pastas and rice and bread! what do i do?
I had RNY, not VSG, so I know more about RNY than the sleeve. That said, are most sleevers unable to tolerate bread and pasta and stuff? Most RNY folks are actually able to tolerate most foods. If I ate very much pasta, it feels heavy in my pouch and uncomfortable. I can eat a small amount with no problem. I didn't start eating any pasta or rice until I was several months out and was able to get my protein in first, so I did go without those foods for a while.
My point is, this is probably not your last chance to enjoy those foods. It's probably your last chance to really binge on them. But I would guess that after your VSG, you'll be able to enjoy a few bites of rice or pasta as part of a balance meal with lean protein and some veggies. If any sleevers here know differently, please correct me, because like I said, I know more about RNY than VSG.
You will be changing how you eat after your surgery, but you will still eat. And, if you choose, you can still eat really yummy food.

My last meal was about a year long, I joke. But really, I did eat more and gain more in the year leading up to wls. It was anxiety over the decision and the final long farwell to food (at least it was in my mind). My best advice is to stop being hard on yourself and to focus on whatever small positive lifestyle changes you can make...stop drinking diet soda, start eating 3 planned meals and 3 planned snacks a day, start walking more, drink more water. Even if your planned meals and snacks include desserts or junk foods, at least you are regulating an eating pattern which will make things easier for you to adjust to post-op. Keep trying and stop being judgemental or angry at yourself.
I know it can be hard, If your a Latina, as i am too, it's hard because we cook with Love & family, I know how it is, I decided to change my eating habit after surgery, You can have pasta but" whole grain" bread one slice whole wheat open face sandwich, I love rice so much, was my weakness... here's what I did, I went to health food store and started trying different rice's like brown jasmine, there a ton to choose from, eat your proteins first, and veggies second...you'll get full on healthy, Good luck, don't let your anxiety psych you out...look at it like premium fuel for your mind, body, spirit.....take alot of deep breathes thru nose, exhale thru mouth, this helps me alot...I wish you the best!
Thanks for your advice, i know eventually i will be able to eat those foods, and i guess its just anxiety from the thought of having to change my eating habits forever. i guess i will start on the smaller things like giving up soda and fried foods, i thank god that i am not a picky person and i can eat anything, i love veggies and fish and grilled chicken, so i will have no problem adjusting, but i do love carbs and i sure will miss them. in a way i feel like im mourning food already.

It takes some time to get used to. I have been a pre-op for 4 years now thanks to insurance troubles so I have a bit more time than most to get used to the diet. Don't overwhelm yourself and give up everything at once. That was one of my problems. I went from eating out all the time, places like fast food and fried, to grilled chicken and fish 1200 calorie diet, no soda, sugar, carbs only from veggies and fruit and whoooa it was too much! I was so determined to lose this weight I did anything and everything all at once and it was a mistake. I even ended up with bad labwork. Ketones showed up in my urine because of starvation.I also yelled at my husband for stupid things but thankfully he is still with me. I learned my mistake.
I also ended up going back to bad habits. And am trying to give it up all again but more reasonably this time. Carbs are a big one for me to give up. I've learned to try it one day at a time, though. I used to eat pasta daily and I've learned to let that go, too. Slowly. I don't eat at my favorite Italian restaurant anymore because I know I would just order the 50g fat penee alfredo again and be miserable. When eat now, I try to focus on protein first to get into the habit.
Just try one day at a time. Good luck on your journey!

Don't know about your surgeon- but mine will cancel surgery if the patient gains weight.
