SOME ONE PLEASE HELP !
RNY on 02/20/12
I'm insulin resistant. I got my surgery to.prevent diabetes as well. Pre-diabetic isn't diabetic so the odds are "ever in your favor" for preventing. Granted like Kim said you could still end up with it due to genetics but sans surgery you WILL end up with it.
It was worth the risk to me.
Good luck!

You need to read the revision board here. I am revising to DS, and there are many RNYs revising to DS (but not the other way around). If RNY is a gold standard, DS is the platinum. I had one waste of a surgery, so I'm doing my research this time.
Some times dingle berries are the lowest hanging fruit.
I am curious, Craig, as to why you are only doing some research NOW? My gawd, what have you been doing for the 3 year wait for surgery then?? Sorry, but I find this so unbelievable.

The reason why is because when i found out about me having insulin resitance i believed i could do it diet and exercise the doctors weren't sure i had any thing wrong with my blood sugars at first because test came back normal then i had friends tell me check with the doctor about WLS as everyone saw i was gaining weight well i talk to the doctor and he said because ther is such a long weight i will put a request in for you but i still want you to try and lose weight on your own so i started to try and lose the weight on my own and my blood sugars were getting worse until they finally did a longer blood glucose test and saw the problem they called it reactive hypoglucemia well it had been a year no call from WLS and i had forgotton about it for awhile too becasue i was concentrating on myhealth and my daughter who is now 5 , but as i started to feel my sitaution was getting worser i remebered i was refered to WLS clinic but never got a call or anything so i called myself they actually were sorting out files and lost mine they did some research and found out my file was sent to guelph once i found that out it was 6 more months so that makes 1 year and 11 months so i have testinng and meetings and during this time is when i really started reseaching the RNY yes mainly RNY becasue i was TOLD thats whats was being offered as the gold standard i asked if there was options the answer was NO so since i felt that i am ODSP and OHIP was paying for it that was it why research something that i THOUGHT i couldn't have , i did briefly check out the other options of WLS just out of curosity i would love the Sleeve but it i wouldn't beifit from it because it really wouldn't help with insulin resitance no the RNY and DS would but the DS is more high maintance more than i want to do, sure if i was a diabect been on a pump or shots 5 times a days and having serious complications from obesity and you said I will give the DS and it got rid of all problems and i didn't have to be on meds and i lost 200 pounds im sure i would be more tham esatic for the DS and appreciate it more and want to put up with all the maintance invovled , dont get me wrong RNY has basically same maintance but there is more Malobsortion then RNY so you have to take more protien and higher amounts of Protien , i have done research i just didnt reseach the governed bodies of OHIP and Baractic prgrams and what was avaible to me so when it got closer to my due date and i found this site to be informative i started questioning my decession and then people who have gone through the procedure are pulling you this way and that way it becomes more difficult . okay it was very hard and i am terrified but i have decided RNY any one have RNY ? yeah dont do it you could have serious complications , i wish i had done the DS, wait dont do the DS my friend did it and she is sick all the time wait do the Sleeve you can eat what you want , oh wait you have insulin resitance it wont work for you, do the RNY i am healthy been 7 years no complication, DS is the best not one problem, LMFAOOOO get the picture understand its by far not easy and i sit here with a 5 year old little girl that doesn't understand why daddys crying , trying to be brave and make a big boy decession.
You already have reactive hypoglycemia? There's increasing evidence that RH is a side effect of the RNY. No clue whether it will make your RH even worse.
There is no question that the DS is more effective in treating Type II diabetes. As for 'the maintainence involed', there's really not much difference between the RNY and the DS. Yes, DSers need more protein---but we can, and do, EAT quite a bit more, and we don't have to worry about the fat that generally comes along with animal proteins. Vitamins? Most RNYers I know take pills 3-4 times a day, just like I do. They may or may not be taking the SAME pills I do, but they most certain need to take plenty.
But honestly? After reading your many posts, I think you personally should go with the RNY. I just don't think you're up to doing the sort of personal advocacy the DS requires. Get the RNY that everybody knows all about, and be done with it.
