pre pre op weight loss
I have to drop 15 lbs before the surgeons office will even send in the paperwork to the ins company. I am 244 lbs, 5'4". Does anyone have any tips/advise on how to get this weight off quickly, I have lost 2 lbs, I already cut out all carbs, sodas, and sweets. I am thinking about fasting just to do a weight check so they can get the paperwork in...
At 5'4" and 244, your BMI is 41.8, just barely over the qualifying 40. If you lose 15 pounds, your BMI will be 39.3, too low for most insurance companies to approve unless you also have two co-morbs, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, GERD, asthma, PCOS, etc.
I suggest finding a more helpful, understanding surgeon.

What I did for the 2 1/2 month supervised weight loss required from the insurance was drink 1 protein shake in the morning, had a light meal and then a pure protein bar in the evening that is somewhat like a treat to eat, not really a dessert mind you but something a little bit sweet and yet had 20 grams of protein to it.
It worked I lost 39 pounds prior to surgery!!!!!

My advice is the same as Ms Batt's. Find a better program! Making you lose 15 pound befor ethey even send the paperwork to the insurance company is not only ridiculous but it goes against the recommendations of the ASMBS!
