Stevia is a totally different taste from splenda. If you get too much it can be bitter or have a 'licorice' flavor to it. I use it almost exclusively. If you want just a sweetner I highly suggest NuNaturals brand. It's my favorite and never tastes bitter. For the flavor drops I'd suggest gettting one of the tins with the minis in it of assorted flavors. That way you can see which ones you like without spending $10-15 for a bottle of drops you don't like.

I'm sorry to hear this. I heard about this in a support group meeting and it seems pretty common. I haven't experienced it and in a way I wished I did! Greek yogurt tastes so tart to me that I have to add a packet of Splenda to tolerate it. I love having sugar free pudding and jello. Nothing tastes different to me but I don't crave sweets like I used to. That's it. I'm sure once you figure out what works as an alternative you will find this to be a blessing since you won't crave sweet things anymore! Best of luck to you in finding a solution. There are many smart people on this forum who are willing to help.

I drink a lot of herbal teas, especially Peppermint, Lemon, and Cinnamon Apple.  I hated herbal teas before surgery; now they are pretty much all I drink.

I shouldn't be surprised that I'm finding things super sweet. I never liked sweets before surgery and now I like them even less, I guess. I won't complain once I find my drink fit. Before surgery, the ONLY thing I ever drank was Coke. That's it. I didn't find it sweet though. Crazy how our bodies respond to certain things and not to others.

I have a problem with my tastebuds as well.. Sleeved on 2/27 I could not tolerate artificial sweeteners before, and really cannot now, except for Truvia which really isn't artificial.  I have been drinking gatorade G2  grape is my favorite flavor, with lots of ice.  I made all my own broth before surgery thinking I would be smart.  Well the smell is wonderful, but the taste of garlic and onion on my tongue is just GROSS!!!  I never like honey before, but that is another sweetener in moderation that is becoming a favorite.

I guess it's live and learn, Alison. Seems like every day is going to be a learning experience for us.

Will you be doing a 1-week weigh in tomorrow? I go for the first postoperative visit and can't wait to see if I've lost anything. I have so far to go but am looking forward to the journey.

I have my first post op appt tomorrow.  I had to stay in the hospital an extra day, and his one office is only open on Tues and Thurs.  So far according to my scale I've lost 13 lbs since surgery.  I have had a hard time with clear proteins, and lots of air pockets with the slightest amount of liquid.  We'll see what he says tomorrow.

Tastes change so much right after surgery! But I think over time you will notice you will taste things again the way you did before surgery.

I still don't tolerate really sweet things (except chocolate), but I think it is because my habits have changed so much. I aim to keep it that way if I possibly can. I have been having a lot of cravings lately, but that's off the subject.

I kind of hope my tastes and desires stay right where they are after I find my drink fit. I could easily live with this.
