My tastebuds have revolted against me after surgery.  Before surgery (last week) I could at least tolerate artificial sweeteners such as Splenda but now..omg, they are so super sickeningly sweet that I can barely think about drinking anything with a sweetener in it.  I can't stomach Crystal Light, diet juices, diet tea, nothing like that! I hate the taste (or lack of taste) of water so I'm pretty limited right now.  I plan to make my own tea and just put no sugar/Splenda in it but I can't think of anything else besides water that I'll want to drink.  My son bought a 0 calorie Fuji Apple Pear vitamin water and that was the sweetest thing so far, so anything like that is out.  I'm still on clear liquids for a couple more days and after that I'll try some of this blueberry diet juice that I bought and hope that I like it.  I drank a bit of a Minute Maid regular sugar Pineapple/Orange juice and it wasn't sweet at all.  It's just the artificial sweeteners that are so blegh and intolerable! It almost tastes like I have poured an entire packet of Sweet-n-Low on my tongue and swallowed it when I drink something like that.

Any ideas for things that I might like?  I'll be off clear liquids on Monday so feel free to suggest anything.  Thank you in advance.

Watch out for fruit juices, they're pretty high in sugar.  If you have them, dilute with plain water at least by half.  I would recommend soups, herb teas, and plain water.  And some patience, your tastes are likely to change again as you move further out from surgery.

Infuse water.  Put sliced, peeled cucumber, sliced lemon, ginger, watermelon - whatever you like - in a pitcher of water and let it sit for a few hours.  It gives it a little flavor without overwhelming.  And it changes the Ph of the water and makes it easier to drink.

I have the same issue and I'm almost two years out! Exspeacially at first I had a hard time drinking it was mainly water u have to get use to everything all over again. Juice does have all of sugar and calories so watch that but I changed from crystal light to wylers and Walmart juice packets they r sugar free and taste just like regular juice no added sweetner u should check them out or shop rite I know carries wylers and cool aid is starting to make flavore cherry and grape are good! Good luck

I finally settled on plain koolaid with no sweetner. When I pour a serving depending upon container size, below 16 oz I add one sweet-n-low, bigger than 16 oz I add 2 sweet-n-low packets.  I cant stand any other sweetner now.  I am working on my 3rd year and all the other sweetners are awful tasting to me.  Keep working with it, you will figure out what will work for you.

Has anyone tried Stevia liquids and are they an okay alternative to using regular sugar? I've never tried them but by doing research online, I am reading that it's not supposed to have that nasty sweet taste that I'm finding with other sweeteners and Splenda. I was thinking maybe this is a good thing that I could mix with my water and won't be so sweet tasting.

A friend recommended Good Earth Sweet and Spicy tea. She said it requires no sugar. I'm going to give that a try and see if I like it.

Barb, how does the taste (after taste) compare to Splenda?
