BIG HUGS ... LITTLE HUGS.... ARE YOU A HUGGER????
Interesting article Beth, thanks for sharing it... I know one such child very close to us as a matter of fact ...
I am glad to read that the article mentions measures that can be implemented also when dealing with this ... it must be hard and challenging ... but certainly worth all the measures in the world ... I would most definitely respect an adult's desire not to be touched/hug absolutely and if I were dealing with a child of mine with this it is good to know that there are measures and therapy and all manner of modalities ... I would certainly pay heed to this portion of the article...
"That doesn't mean you should stop touching or hugging — your child needs to have those experiences. But show some understanding and ingenuity in the way you do it. Let your child know when he is going to be touched; let him see you before you touch. Pay attention to your child's sensory preferences and see if there's a part of his body that's less sensitive than others. One mother reports that her son resisted touch in general, but would allow her to hold the tip of his foot. So she started there, and eventually he became comfortable enough with touch for more normal cuddling andcontact. "
HAPPY VALENTINES TO YOU ... AND CYBERHUGS TOO....

Happy Valentine's Day, Gorgeous!!! ((((((HUGHUGHUG))))))!!!!!
Yup, I'm a hugger, and am working hard to learn to ask permission first if it's someone I don't know. They feel so wonderful and healing and connecting and all sorts of warm fuzzies etc etc etc......

You will discover a sense of empowerment and peace you have never before experienced. You will come to believe you can overcome your challenges and find some joy in this world." Katie Jay
I used to not be a hugger but I lost 80 lbs and turned into one. I gained back 50 of those lbs but still hg. I realized I wasn't hugging because of my size but darn it I liked hugging I am a hugger! So I still hug people when I see them. It was fun for my friends to see me out of state and when I hugged them they all looked and smiled and commented what a change.
