Help! I'm going crazy on this pre-op liquid diet!!!
VSG on 02/16/12
My VSG is scheduled for this Thursday. So I went on a protein shake diet last Wednesday. According to my doctor, I can only drink protein shakes, Crystal ligh****er, Jello, and Jello Pops. It is been fine so far but today has been really bad. I really want something other than liquid in my stomach!! Even celery would be welcome at this point. I’m going out of my mind! Any words of advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

What worked for me was to add unflavored protein and benefiber to all (or more) of my liquids. I've gotten to the point where I'm not even hungry and don't care about food ****il I see a commercial with a picture of lasgne -- but that's "head" hunger, not true hunger.) Good luck with you journey, it will be over soon and you'll be on to a different phase.

Thank you so much martitalinda.
Since I first starting lurking on this board, I've alway read, with pleasure, your positive and inspiring comments and your story.
You're clearly as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside (both before and after your surgery.)

Hi:
You can also mix your protein shake with diet pop/soda, diet orange tastes like a creamsicle with the vanilla shake. I loved diet Dr. Pepper (or coke) with the chocolate. It really helped making the pre surgury diet bearable. Good luck, cuz you can't have any fizzy drinks afterward and they swell your stomach.
Hope this helps. and good luck with your surgery. Mine went fine, and I haven't "dumped' one way or the other.

I think the pre-op and post-op phases are the hardest. I had the rest of my family cooking and smelling all the foods, and the TV ads are crazy. I kept track one day at a time telling myself I could do this. I would read health related articles and motivate my mind. It is alot of adjusting to but it is worth it. I am still under a month from surgery and have lost 29 pounds. You can do this! Try doing crafts or other things you like also helped me not to focus on food.
Good Luck!
